ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ Mājẖ mėhlā 3. Raag Maaj, Guru Amar Das ji ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ Ėkā joṯ joṯ hai sarīrā. Sabaḏ ḏikẖā▫e saṯgur pūrā. One light, such light in all bodies. Through the true words the eternal esteemed complete teacher so shows. ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ Āpe farak kīṯon gẖat anṯar āpe baṇaṯ baṇāvaṇi▫ā. ||1|| By self, made differences in bodies, by self created such creations ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ Ha▫o vārī jī▫o vārī har sacẖe ke guṇ gāvaṇi▫ā. How appreciative, soul so appreciative contemplating on virtues of the true creator. ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੋ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Bājẖ gurū ko sahj na pā▫e gurmukẖ sahj samāvaṇi▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o. Without an esteemed teacher there is no calmness and through the teacher of the creator calmness prevails. ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗੁ ਮੋਹਹਿ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਵਹਿ ॥ Ŧūʼn āpe sohėh āpe jag mohėh. Ŧūʼn āpe naḏrī jagaṯ parovėh. You by self so charming, by self enticing the world. By self vision you string the world. ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥ Ŧūʼn āpe ḏukẖ sukẖ ḏevėh karṯe gurmukẖ har ḏekẖāvaṇi▫ā. ||2|| By self the pain and comfort you give, one facing up to the creator so showing of the creator. ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ Āpe karṯā kare karā▫e. Āpe sabaḏ gur man vasā▫e. By self does and gets done. Creator by self instills wisdom in the mind. ਸਬਦੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥ Sabḏe upjai amriṯ baṇī gurmukẖ ākẖ suṇāvṇi▫ā. ||3|| True words create the pure message that the one looking up to the creator vocalizes. ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ॥ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ॥ Āpe karṯā āpe bẖugṯā. Banḏẖan ṯoṛe saḏā hai mukṯā. By self does and by self the consumer. Breaks the shackles and forever is free. ਸਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥ Saḏā mukaṯ āpe hai sacẖā āpe alakẖ lakẖāvaṇi▫ā. ||4|| Forever free by self, true by self, invisible, causes to be seen. ਆਪੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਆਪੇ ਛਾਇਆ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ Āpe mā▫i▫ā āpe cẖẖā▫i▫ā. Āpe moh sabẖ jagaṯ upā▫i▫ā. By self the creator of worldly possessions and their influences. By self created the whole world so enticed. ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥ Āpe guṇḏāṯā guṇ gāvai āpe ākẖ suṇāvṇi▫ā. ||5|| By self the virtue lord, by self elicits and enunciates the virtues ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ Āpe kare karā▫e āpe. Āpe thāp uthāpe āpe. By self does, by self gets done. By self establishes, by self dis-establishes. ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥ Ŧujẖ ṯe bāhar kacẖẖū na hovai ṯūʼn āpe kārai lāvaṇi▫ā. ||6|| Nothing happens outside of your control, by self you enable to be engaged in tasks ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪਿ ਜੀਵਾਏ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ Āpe māre āp jīvā▫e. Āpe mele mel milā▫e. By self kills, by self makes alive. By self enjoins, engages the enjoined. ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ Sevā ṯe saḏā sukẖ pā▫i▫ā gurmukẖ sahj samāvaṇi▫ā. ||7||
In service forever comfort received, one looking up to the creator so sublime and tranquil. ਆਪੇ ਊਚਾ ਊਚੋ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਖਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ Āpe ūcẖā ūcẖo ho▫ī. Jis āp vikẖāle so vekẖai ko▫ī. By self higher than the high. Those so by self shown, such seeing but few. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਖਾਲਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੬॥੨੭॥ Nānak nām vasai gẖat anṯar āpe vekẖ vikẖālaṇi▫ā. ||8||26||27|| Nanak the true understanding resides in the heart, by self realizes and makes to be realized Quote: ESSENCE: Guru Amar Das ji in this sabad describe the duality of the creator in the enabler and doer as well as the receiver or showing the effects of such actions.
Guru ji describe how all the world with trappings and people created in distinct bodies is under control of but one creator so capable of and doing so continuously.
Guru ji conclude that the true understanding resides inside but only if so enabled by the creator for us to to see and be shown. | Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.
