gurumukh milai milaaeaeaapae
The Gurmukhs meet the Lord, and inspire others to meet Him as well.

kwlu n johY duKu n sMqwpy ]
kaal n johai dhukh n sunthaapae
Death does not see them, and pain does not afflict them.

haumY mwir bMDn sB qoVY gurmuiK sbid suhwvixAw ]1]
houmai maar bundhun subh thorrai gurumukh subadh suhaavaniaa
Subduing egotism, they break all their bonds; as Gurmukh, they are adorned with the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

hau vwrI jIau vwrI hir hir nwim suhwvixAw ]
ho vaaree jeeo vaaree har har naam suhaavaniaa
I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who look beautiful in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

gurmuiK gwvY gurmuiK nwcY hir syqI icqu lwvixAw ]1] rhwau ]
gurumukh gaavai gurumukh naachai har saethee chith laavaniaa
The Gurmukhs sing, the Gurmukhs dance, and focus their consciousness on the Lord. ||1||Pause||

gurmuiK jIvY mrY prvwxu ]
gurumukh jeevai murai puruvaan
The Gurmukhs are celebrated in life and death.

Awrjw n CIjY sbdu pCwxu ]
aarujaa n sheejai subudh pushaan
Their lives are not wasted; they realize the Word of the Shabad.

gurmuiK mrY n kwlu n Kwey gurmuiK sic smwvixAw ]2]
gurumukh murai n kaal n khaaeae gurumukh sach sumaavaniaa
The Gurmukhs do not die; they are not consumed by death. The Gurmukhs are absorbed in the True Lord. ||2||

gurmuiK hir dir soBw pwey ]
gurumukh har dhar sobhaa paaeae
The Gurmukhs are honored in the Court of the Lord.

gurmuiK ivchu Awpu gvwey ]
gurumukh vichuhuaap guvaaeae
The Gurmukhs eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.

Awip qrY kul sgly qwry gurmuiK jnmu svwrixAw ]3]
aap thurai kul sugulae thaarae gurumukh junum suvaaraniaa
They save themselves, and save all their families and ancestors as well. The Gurmukhs redeem their lives. ||3||

gurmuiK duKu kdy n lgY srIir ]
gurumukh dhukh kudhae n lugai sureer
The Gurmukhs never suffer bodily pain.

gurmuiK haumY cUkY pIr ]
gurumukh houmai chookai peer
The Gurmukhs have the pain of egotism taken away.

The minds of the Gurmukhs are immaculate and pure; no filth ever sticks to them again. The Gurmukhs merge in celestial peace. ||4||

gurumukh naam milai vaddiaaee
The Gurmukhs obtain the Greatness of the Naam.

gurmuiK gux gwvY soBw pweI ]
gurumukh gun gaavai sobhaa paaee
The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and obtain honor.

sdw Anµid rhY idnu rwqI gurmuiK sbdu krwvixAw ]5]
sudhaa anundh rehai dhin raathee gurumukh subudh kuraavaniaa
They remain in bliss forever, day and night. The Gurmukhs practice the Word of the Shabad. ||5||

gurmuiK Anidnu sbdy rwqw ]
gurumukh anadhin subudhae raathaa
The Gurmukhs are attuned to the Shabad, night and day.

gurmuiK jug cwry hY jwqw ]
gurumukh jug chaarae hai jaathaa
The Gurmukhs are known throughout the four ages.

gurmuiK gux gwvY sdw inrmlu sbdy Bgiq krwvixAw ]6]
gurumukh gun gaavai sudhaa nirumul subudhae bhugath kuraavaniaa

The Gurmukhs always sing the Glorious Praises of the Immaculate Lord. Through the Shabad, they practice devotional worship. ||6||

Without the Guru, there is only pitch-black darkness.

jmkwil grTy krih pukwrw ]
jumukaal guruthae kurehi pukaaraa
Seized by the Messenger of Death, people cry out and scream.

Anidnu rogI ibstw ky kIVy ibstw mih duKu pwvixAw ]7]
anadhin rogee bisuttaa kae keerrae bisuttaa mehi dhukh paavaniaa
Night and day, they are diseased, like maggots in manure, and in manure they endure agony. ||7||

gurmuiK Awpy kry krwey ]
gurumukh aapae kurae kuraaeae
The Gurmukhs know that the Lord alone acts, and causes others to act.

gurmuiK ihrdY vuTw Awip Awey ]
gurumukh hirudhai vuthaaaap aaeae
In the hearts of the Gurmukhs, the Lord Himself comes to dwell.

nwnk nwim imlY vifAweI pUry gur qy pwvixAw ]8]25]26]
naanuk naam milai vaddiaaee poorae gur thae paavaniaa
O Nanak, through the Naam, greatness is obtained. It is received from the Perfect Guru. ||8||25||26||

jinee purukhee suthugur n saeviou sae dhukheeeae jug chaar
Those who do not serve the True Guru shall be miserable throughout the four ages.

Gir hodw purKu n pCwixAw AiBmwin muTy AhMkwir ]
ghar hodhaa purukh n pushaaniaa abhimaan muthae ahunkaar
The Primal Being is within their own home, but they do not recognize Him. They are plundered by their egotistical pride and arrogance.

sqgurU ikAw iPtikAw mMig Qky sMswir ]
suthuguroo kiaa fittakiaa mung thukae sunsaar
Cursed by the True Guru, they wander around the world begging, until they are exhausted.

scw sbdu n syivE siB kwj svwrxhwru ]1]
suchaa subudh n saeviou sabh kaaj suvaarunehaar
They do not serve the True Word of the Shabad, which is the solution to all of their problems. ||1||

mn myry sdw hir vyKu hdUir ]
mun maerae sudhaa har vaekh hudhoor
O my mind, see the Lord ever close at hand.

jnm mrn duKu prhrY sbid rihAw BrpUir ]1] rhwau ]
junum murun dhukh purehurai subadh rehiaa bhurupoor
He shall remove the pains of death and rebirth; the Word of the Shabad shall fill you to overflowing. ||1||Pause||

scu slwhin sy scy scw nwmu ADwru ]
such sulaahan sae suchae suchaa naam adhaar
Those who praise the True One are true; the True Name is their Support.

scI kwr kmwvxI scy nwil ipAwru ]
suchee kaar kumaavunee suchae naal piaar
They act truthfully, in love with the True Lord.

scw swhu vrqdw koie n mytxhwru ]
suchaa saahu vuruthudhaa koe n maettunehaar

The True King has written His Order, which no one can erase.

munumukh mehul n paaeinee koorr muthae koorriaar
The self-willed manmukhs do not obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. The false are plundered by falsehood. ||2||

haumY krqw jgu muAw gur ibnu Gor AMDwru ]
houmai kuruthaa jug muaa gur bin ghor andhaar
Engrossed in egotism, the world perishes. Without the Guru, there is utter darkness.

mwieAw moih ivswirAw suKdwqw dwqwru ]
maaeiaa mohi visaariaa sukhudhaathaa dhaathaar

In emotional attachment to Maya, they have forgotten the Great Giver, the Giver of Peace.

sqguru syvih qw aubrih scu rKih aur Dwir ]
suthugur saevehi thaa ouburehi such rukhehi our dhaar
Those who serve the True Guru are saved; they keep the True One enshrined in their hearts.

ikrpw qy hir pweIAY sic sbid vIcwir ]3]
kirupaa thae har paaeeai sach subadh veechaar
By His Grace, we find the Lord, and reflect on the True Word of the Shabad. ||3||

sqguru syiv mnu inrmlw haumY qij ivkwr ]
suthugur saev mun nirumulaa houmai thaj vikaar
Serving the True Guru, the mind becomes immaculate and pure; egotism and corruption are discarded.

Awpu Coif jIvq mrY gur kY sbid vIcwr ]
aap shodd jeevuth murai gur kai subadh veechaar
So abandon your selfishness, and remain dead while yet alive. Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

DMDw Dwvq rih gey lwgw swic ipAwru ]
dhundhaa dhaavuth rehi geae laagaa saach piaar
The pursuit of worldly affairs comes to an end, when you embrace love for the True One.

sic rqy muK aujly iqqu swcY drbwir ]4]
sach ruthae mukh oujulae thith saachai dhurubaar
Those who are attuned to Truth-their faces are radiant in the Court of the True Lord. ||4||

sqguru purKu n mMinE sbid n lgo ipAwru ]
suthugur purukh n munniou subadh n lugo piaar
Those who do not have faith in the Primal Being, the True Guru, and who do not enshrine love for the Shabad

iesnwnu dwnu jyqw krih dUjY Bwie KuAwru ]
eisunaan dhaan jaethaa kurehi dhoojai bhaae khuaar
they take their cleansing baths, and give to charity again and again, but they are ultimately consumed by their love of duality.

hir jIau AwpxI ik®pw kry qw lwgY nwm ipAwru ]
har jeeo aapunee kirupaa kurae thaa laagai naam piaar
When the Dear Lord Himself grants His Grace, they are inspired to love the Naam.

nwnk nwmu smwil qU gur kY hyiq Apwir ]5]20]53]
naanuk naam sumaal thoo gur kai haeth apaar
O Nanak, immerse yourself in the Naam, through the Infinite Love of the Guru. ||5||20||53||
