Wasn't there a time when people felt safe having a Singh around? I recall reading somewhere at some time that a person when they were young was told by their carer to always pick a train carriage with a Singh in it because they'd be safe in that one. Does that still happen?

| True.
One would think that you could just help someone as an "average" person and then you avoid the consequences of standing out... interesting to note that this is starting to sound like that argument from those Sikhs who prefer not to wear a turban... |

| | | | | Re: Real Life Superheroes - A Good Idea? You can't be an average person and wear a bullet proof vest and armour against being stabbed. That's why you need the lycra and the face mask, hehe.
The turban should be a symbol for everyone that you are an upstanding Sikh ready to defend those who can't defend themselves, right? My concern is, is that the case? Not every Sikh with dastaar is upstanding. It's human nature. It was interesting on camp once, in darbar sahib with half the hall full of motivated and excited Singhs in dastaars yelling "Bole So Nihal" "Sat Sri Akal", one certainly had the feeling that if anything was to happen it would be okay because there was an army of Singhs right there ready for action! Very inspiring.
Here's a question: If Person A attacks Person B and Sikh A defends Person B, then Sikh B comes in and helps Person A up off the ground (because obviously Sikh A would have kicked butt!! ), how would you feel?

| | | | | Re: Real Life Superheroes - A Good Idea? This is not dissimilar from the org Guardian Angels started by Curtis Silwa in the Philadelphia area. Went on to become a worldwide organization. In other words, they morphed into a very well resourced and sophisticated organization over time. They definitely do not have the cache of a guy in a black and gold rubber suit who disappears behind a bookshelf. http://www.guardianangels.org/
They began in 1979 in New York City, a small band at first, and they operated out of a storefronts in various metro areas. Typically rode on buses but also patrolled tough neighborhoods at the request of residents. Local polizioti always had a problem with them. | | The following members appreciate spnadmin Ji for the above message. | |
