Live discussion on banned book triggers fresh controversy

Live discussion of the banned book Sikh Itihaas from gurdwaras in Delhi has added ammo to the ongoing controversy between president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Paramjit Singh Sarna and president of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Amritsar Avtar Singh Makkar.

Makkar said legal action will be taken against those who still possess the book. “The book has been banned and if anyone has any copy, they can give it back to us,” he said.

The book was published in 1999 by the Dharam Parchar Committee of the SGPC, Amritsar, during the tricentenary of the Khalsa Panth. It carried some distorted facts of the Sikh history following which the book was banned three years ago.

Two days ago, Jaswinder Singh Baliawal, Punjab president of SAD (Delhi), in an open letter to SGPC president Makkar raised some vital questions. Showing the letter to The Indian Express, Baliawal said, “Crores were spent on publishing this book, which had misleading facts. Instead of taking action against the culprits, a statement was issued saying the book has been banned and there should be no discussion on it; and if anyone indulges in discussion, legal action will be taken against the person. But what action has been taken against the secretary of Dharam Parchar Committee for publishing the book? By banning the book, will the issue be resolved? Was any Sikh scholar taken into confidence before publishing the book? And more importantly, who is the writer?”

Makkar said the Sikh community was busy celebrating the centenary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, SAD (Delhi), there was no need to raise the issue now. He went on add that SAD (Delhi) was the agent of the Congress and wanted to jeopardise the centenary celebrations. “I was not the president of SGPC at the time when the book was published,” he said in his defence.

He said the Sarana group was trying to divert attention of the Sikhs from their wrong deeds. “They did not obey orders of the Akal Takht and did not receive Shri Guru Granth Sahib during the Fateh march. By giving live discussion of this book from gurdwaras is not correct. I will request the jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib to take action against them for provoking people with the banned book,” he said.

Would some knowledgeable forum member be able to kindly provide some background for this story?

Also, how do Makkar or SGPC have jurisdiction over events happening in Dehli?

Many thanks.

This book was commissioned by the Dharam Parchar Comittee of SGPC.
It cost a few KRORS.

Some excerpts.. Guru Har rai ji had an illegetimate son..Ram Rai by his MAID....Presumably this is the real reason for "banishing" Ram rai and not the changes to Gurbani he did at Delhi Court....
Much more simialr rubbish....when exposed got this book "banned" ( as was the Gurbilas Patshai Chhevin revised and annotated by None other than Akal Takhat Jathedar Joginder Singh who got over a DOZEN eminent persons like Maskeen Ji, Tohra Ji and Jathedars of Keshgarh and Damdam Sahib to write glowing Forward and wnated to start the Katha of this book immediately in ALL GURDWARAS under SGPC control..UNFORTUNATELY kala Afgahna wrote a DETAILED TREATISE which forced Joginder singh to BAN HIS OWN BOOK !! - his revenge..was to get kala afghana excommunicated. What is even MORE INTERESTING is that Tohra Maskeen said they NEVER actually read the book..just endorsed it as it was by the AT Jathedar...and the Keshgarh and Damdam Takhat jathedars said their SIGNATURES WERE FORGED !!

So actually this is just the tip of the proverbial ICEBERG..and what an iceberg it is will eventiually Come out and the Stick of Excommunication is being raised once again ..

2. The DGMC are also not entirley innocent...they paid KRORS to a South Indian Scholar..to Translate SGGS into TAMIL....that he couldnt do..BUT what he did accomplish was REJECT ALL THE SIHAREES, AUNKARS..the Markers in Gurbani that indicate Gurbani Grammar...as UTEERLY USELESS as they are not "spoken/pronounced". He PHYSICALLY CUT OUT THESE SIHAREES AUNKARS etc from a BIR of SGGS !!! When this GROSS INDECENT CONDUCT - ghor beadbi of sggs was discovered..the Tamil Schoalr disappeared ( but not beofore collecting his krors ) NO Further Action was taken - NOT even by the AKAL TAKHAT JATHEDAR !!.......

Gyani ji

Thanks ji! The Joginder Singh that you mention must have been then the Jathedar of Akal Takht...not of Rozanna Spokesman? I need myself to be clear about that.

So one other question. In another thread we read that SGPC is now going to open a department of history, and rewrite Sikh History, under the supervision of Dr. Anurag Singh, who was appointed to head a committee in 2008 to coordinate this effort.

http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/hard-talk/30361-sikh-history-to-rewritten-sgpc-chief.html

He is the son of Tarlochan Singh, one of those whom you say wrote the "glowing" forward to the Sikh Itihias that is now banned. Dr. Anurag Singh is not a historian by training. Presumably he would be directing the work of academics who are historians.

How does this story fit into the story told here? Or does it?

I have attached the 2008 notice of his appointment.

Yes Ji its the Joginder Singh Of Akal Takhat....and YES the same Joginder Singh Ji is also on Board a SGPC effort to produce an "authentic" teeka of SGGS that is "acceptable" to ALL..and here ALL definitlly means the Dhumma saadh derawallah gang.
SO not only is History being rewritten to satisfy the RSS derawallahs etc (i think Dr Anurag singh is an avid DG supporter just like most Govt academics in Universities in India )..the SGGS is also being re-teekaed !!
I ma beginning to look like i see an "enemy" under every stone...but thats a fact..with people with dubious credentials (joginder and his gurbials patshahi chhevin fiasco hanging over him ) heading Boards to do autnetic teekas of sggs and those that spent krors to write sikh history that are now being banned...are again rewriting sikh history..cats are guarding the milk pot ??
I will join the dots later when i get some more background...

Thanks Gyani ji,

Well I have already noted that Dr. Anurag Singh ji is in great demand as a speaker to pro-Dasam Granth audiences.
