Hi,

Is someone able to provide me with the meaning of gurugranth sahib ji. I had asked a question to baba ji and got the hukam namaa from Ang 1013-16 till the end. However, I do not know the actual meaning in order to get my answer. If someone can be kind enough that would be appreciated.

Thank you

I'm not sure which shabad you're referring to. Here's a link to ang 1013 with English translation. Does that help? Or can you narrow down which shabad you received as hukamnama?

Hi Ishna,

Thanks for your reply.

So it starts
Maath Pithaa Sanjog Oupaaeae Rakath Bindh Mil Pindd Karae
a(n)tar garabh auradh liv laagee so prabh saare dhaat kare
sa(n)saar bhavajal kiau tarai
uramukh naam nira(n)jan paieeaai afario bhaar afaar Tarai ||1|| rahaau
te gun visar ge aparaadhee mai bauraa kiaa karau hare
too dhaataa dhiaal sabhai sir ahinis dhaat samaar kare
chaar padhaarath lai jag janamiaa siv sakatee ghar vaas dhare
laagee bhookh maiaa mag johai mukat padhaarath moh khare
karan palaav kare nahee paavai it aut ddooddat thaak pare
kaam karodh aha(n)kaar viaape kooR kuTa(n)b siau preet kare
khaavai bhogai sun sun dhekhai pahir dhikhaavai kaal ghare

It is not so much of the English translation that I need, but rather the arth of these sacred words/lines.

Thanks

One is born to achieve the four great objectives of life. The spirit has taken up its home in the material world.

He eats and enjoys, listens and watches, and dresses up to show off in this house of death.

Bin gur sabaḏ na āp pacẖẖāṇai bin har nām na kāl tare. ||5||
Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he does not understand himself. Without the Lord's Name, death cannot be avoided. ||5||

Cẖaraṇ rahe kar kampaṇ lāge sākaṯ rām na riḏai hare. ||7||
He feet fail him, and his hands shake and tremble; the faithless cynic does not enshrine the Lord in his heart. ||7||

His intellect fails him, his black hair turns white, and no one wants to keep him in their home.

Bisraṯ nām aise ḏokẖ lāgėh jam mār samāre narak kẖare. ||8||
Forgetting the Naam, these are the stigmas which stick to him; the Messenger of Death beats him, and drags him to hell. ||8||

The record of one's past actions cannot be erased; who else is to blame for one's birth and death?

Without the Guru, life and death are pointless; without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, life just burns away. ||9||

Nām bisār lobẖ mūl kẖo▫i▫o sir ḏẖaram rā▫e kā dand pare. ||10||
Forgetting the Naam, and caught by greed, he betrays his own source; the club of the Righteous Judge of Dharma will strike him over the head. ||10||

Gurmukẖ rām nām guṇ gāvahi jā ka▫o har parabẖ naḏar kare.
The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name; the Lord God blesses them with His Glance of Grace.

Ŧe nirmal purakẖ aprampar pūre ṯe jag mėh gur govinḏ hare. ||11||
Those beings are pure, perfect unlimited and infinite; in this world, they are the embodiment of the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. ||11||

Har simrahu gur bacẖan samārahu sangaṯ har jan bẖā▫o kare.
Meditate in remembrance on the Lord; meditate and contemplate the Guru's Word, and love to associate with the humble servants of the Lord.

Har jan gur parḏẖān ḏu▫ārai Nānak ṯin jan kī reṇ hare. ||12||8||
The Lord's humble servants are the embodiment of the Guru; they are supreme and respected in the Court of the Lord. Nanak seeks the dust of the feet of those humble servants of the Lord. ||12||8||

To me this shabad is a warning against forgetting God and being a materialist. It begs us to remember God and keep good company.
