The Science & Spirituality in Co-Existence
Dr Dalvinder Singh Grewal
Dr Dalvinder Singh Grewal
In the modern age of Science & Technology, man has taken civilization to the highest peak of progress providing all facilities and comforts. A man who does not have internal and external happiness can not help other to attain happiness and make world peaceful. The men who lost virtues of calmness, satisfaction forgiveness and self control, cannot achieve the goal universal brotherhood and world peace. Therefore we need to learn how to live together in mutual peace and harmony. Religion shows us the way through which we can be empowered to attain eternal peace and strength to manage the stresses and strains.
Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics explains that the term spirituality is frequently employed to describe the character of man who has entered the kingdom of God. Spirituality is also defined as the state or quality of being dedicated to God. Religion or spiritual things or values , especially as contrasted with material or temporal ones.
In the era of globalization the interfaith, science and spirituality have an important role. The conflict between science and religion which had started after renaissance in Europe has retreated during the new millennium .The mysticism of Guru Nanak is both a vision and a discipline. The vision provided a relevation of the Supreme reality. The discipline improved process of self purification and a positive communication to serve humanity. Guru Nanak spiritual teaching of service, humility, meditation and truthfulness, eventually took shape of a new religion knows as Sikhism. It created harmony in society and universal brotherhood. The object of human life is to rediscover God, and be united with him. Guru Nanak spoke words of external faith, which were destined to give peace, freedom and salvation to all and create a noble humanity. The three main principles he expounded are based on the principle of work, workshop and charity:
Kirt Karna:-that is doing honest labour and feeling that work is worship.
Wand Chhakna: that is sharing one’s food and earnings with others and
Naam japna:- that is remembrance of God and the recitation and meditation on the holy Naam.
A science is often described as a systematic body of knowledge, a complete era of eiscitel principal facts, arranged in a rational dependence or connection, a complex of ideas, principals, laws farming a coherent, whole Scientist endeavors to develop, organize and classify materials into interconnected disciplines. Sir Isacc Newton set forth what he called” the system of the word “
Science and spirituality expressed two systems of human thoughts. They represent objective of existence and reality. “The systems approach emphasizes wholeness first, then moves to consideration of parts and subsystems (elements), including interactions (interrelationships) among them and between the parts and the total. The same system covers and extremely broad spectrum of concepts for example, we have solar system, mountain system and river system. As a part of our physical summaries, the body itself is a complex organism including the shelted system, the circulation system and the nervous system”.
Guru Nanak has explained this system concept of the world very uniquely. He wrote that the entire creation of the God is set in a system and functions systematically. He created the universe systematically in a system which has sub-systems. His first word ‘Japuji’ starts with the systems concept i.e. there is only One God whose name is true (ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ). He is the creator of the entire universe. He created the universe with one sound. This sound energy expanded creating air. From
air came the fire and from the fire originated the water. The combination of air, water and fire created the universe and the nature. The universe and the nature are set in systems and subsystems. The system of universe includes black holes, which have numerous galaxies. Each galaxy has countless stars. Each star has many planets. Each planet has satellites. There are countless beings on planets like earth. The beings are the product of nature. The beings have numerous colors and creeds. Each being has body, mind and soul. Each body has numerous subsystems. This keeps on creating and destroying as Hewils by merely changing the forms. The lord became part of His creations and His creation has become His part. The system was set from the very beginning of the universe and has been in force ever since when the being understands the order and will of the lord and submits to Him totally having total faith in His system. The being attains the faith in His system the being attains the true knowledge. By following His order the beings attained the ultimate truth.
He has set a system of change. The change has been regular and systematic matching with time and space. He has the regulatory control through His light in the form of spirit and watches every being from inside. The beings continue in the cycle of birth and death till they get emancipated through His name. No one knows His limit. Light of the lord is in every existence which He controls the universe.
The energy was created only once, which neither increases nor decreases but continually changes forms in a set order. The changing of forms is in a system and order set by Him. Nothing changes without His order and everyone functions as per his order. The lord watches all the actions of each being and corrects the course as He wills. Nothing goes against His will. By the order of the true Lord, the man comes into existence.
“ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੌਵਨਿ ਜੀਅ ਹੁਕਮ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ”. A human body is obtained due to the good deeds in a previous birth. Human life is the better time for the spirit to do good deeds and remember Him.
Science of infinity, science of reality, which means religion, that has become individual, a telescope, a bioscope, and a situation where man wants to show himself or see himself on the planet Earth.
It is concluded that, during present times, coherence of both these systems is a sine qua non non-factor for the attainment of everlasting peace, prosperity, and spiritual enlightenment of mankind.
