United Sikh said in a statement, “Participating members of the Sikh Delegation will meet with US Congressmen and Senators from different regions and share the concerns of the community with our lawmakers,” scheduled to be held from May 3 to May 7.

Among the lawmakers, the organizers listed as attending the Sikh Summit are Congresswomen Loretta Sanchez, Zoe Lofgren, Sheila Jackson Lee, Yvette Clarke and Congressmen John Barrow, Scott Gattett, John Lewis, Pete King, Steve Rotham, Albio Sires, John Garamendi, Pete Stark, Xavier Becerra, Brian Bibray, Michael Honda.

Among the Senators slated to attend are Arlen Specter, Sherrod Brown, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Kirtsen Gillibrand, Patricia Murray, Benjamin Cardin, Joseph Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Jim Webb and John Cornyn.

There are also meetings planned with U.S. Department of Justice and with the White House officials in addition to different subcommittees of lawmakers.

The different groups representing Sikhs across the U.S. are looking forward to this opportunity to meet with federal agency officials, to have their views heard about various issues being dealt with the Sikh community.
United Sikhs said in its statement, “The Sikh Summit is a way for Sikhs to unite and hold meaningful dialogue with government to promote solutions on important civil and human rights issues, such as Profiling, Hate and Bias Crimes, Articles of Faith, Xenophobia, the Census, Border and Watch list Concerns, Employment Discrimination, and Immigration Issues.”

There are more than half a million Sikhs living in the U.S. across the nation.
