Gatka, a traditional martial art, an Indian Art of self defence, was introduced to India around 4 thousand years ago by the Aryans and is the mother of all martial arts. It is an art by which one becomes extremely graceful and brings dignity, divinity, grace and self defence but it requires time, commitment and practise.
It is generally at public display during religious processions but Punjab Gatka Association (Regd.) and Gatka Federation of India (Regd.) are managing, standardizing, promoting, popularizing and reviving it as a game in Punjab as well as in India similar to other games.
The Gatka Federation has, for the first time, formulated and standardized the in-depth rules and regulations in September 2009 for playing of Gatka game with pictorial guidelines and providing training to the budding Gatkebaaz through workshops, seminars and camps under the new Gatka rules. It's a humble effort to revive a forgotten and dying art having a historical significance.
We are pleased to inform you that Punjab Olympic Association (POA) has recognised the PGA. The Education Department of Punjab has also incorporated the Gatka game into the Punjab school and universities sports calendar on the persistent appeals of PGA. We are passionately desiring from the Punjab as well as Central Governments to award due gradations of Gatka game certificates at par with the certificates of other games for which a case has also been filed before the Punjab State Sports Council and Sports Department Punjab.
With the inclusion of Gatka into the general games, it had revolutionized the martial art, which was earlier heading towards its distinction, and put it in the Northward trajectory to arose to the lost magnificence. Thanks to the relentless efforts of Punjab Gatka Association and Gatka Federation of India, whose persistent determination has yielded the great dream into realty of its glory that faded gradually after the passing of 10th Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a great lover of martial arts.
The Federation has, for the first time, formulated and standardized the in-depth rules and regulations in September 2009 for playing of Gatka game with pictorial guidelines and providing training to the budding Gatkebaaz through workshops, seminars and camps under the new Gatka rules. The Gatkebaaz who are interested in to have a copy of these International Gatka Rules, could send request on email dprogrewal@yahoo.com or contact on mobile provided on the official website www.punjabgatkaassociation.com.

Gatka incorporated into sports calendar:
I am pained to inform you that till date the centuries old historical Gatka including other traditional Sikh martial art games, commenced by the Sikh Gurus, have not been accorded due acknowledgment, recognition and participation by any sports body or government in any State. PGA's selfless motive is to awake the masses about this martial art, otherwise, it might happen that the next generation will be totally unaware of Gatka. It's a humble effort to revive a forgotten and dying art having historical significance.
I am pleased to inform you that Punjab Olympic Association (POA) has recognised the PGA. The Education Department of Punjab has also incorporated the Gatka game into the Punjab sports calendar on the persistent appeals of PGA.
PGA is craving for to award due gradations of Gatka game certificates by the Punjab as well as Central Governments at par with the certificates of other games for which a case has also been filed before the Punjab State Sports Council and Sports Department. This selfless effort would be a delayed humble tribute to our beloved Gurus by the both the Governments, in reviving the Sikh martial art.

SMART Board to grant scholarships:
PGA had constituted a Sikh Martial Art Research and Training Board (SMART Board) to grant scholarships to the aspiring research scholars doing Ph.D in the field of martial art, especially on Gatka in order to enrich the historical literature on Sikh martial art. Prominent personalities have been included into the SMART Board to verify and accept the research projects. In this regard letters have been sent to all the Vice Chancellors of Universities of Punjab State.

Gatka Training Centers in each district:
In order to train the budding Gatkebaaz under the new rules constituted by the Gatka Federation of India, the PGA has planned to establish Gatka Training Centers (GTCs) in each district under the District Associations/units. In such GTCs certified trained Gatka coaches would be deputed for training. The core purpose of the PGA is to manage, promote, standardize and popularise the game of Gatka and other martial arts on amateur basis. It is also meant to enable youth to stay fit n' fine by keeping them away from drug abuse and other intoxicants to lead a disciplined life so that rich heritage of Punjab could be projected at global arena.

State level Refresher courses for Gatkebaaz:
