Sikhs dont need to keep any fasts..esp karva chauth..sanjhi fast etc..

ਸਾਂਝੀ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ .????? ਜੋ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਅਹੋਈ ਦੇਵੀ ਦਾ ਵਰਤ ਰਖਦੀ ਹੈ..ਅਹੋਈ (ਸਾਂਝੀ) ਦੇਵੀ ਦਾ ਵਰਤ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੀਤਲਾ ਹੈ..ਕੱਤਕ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ (ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੁਆਰੀਆਂ) ਰਖਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ..ਕੰਧ ਉੱਪਰ ਗੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਪੋਚਾ ਜੇਹਾ ਫੇਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਤਾਰੇ ,ਚਿੜੀਆਂ ,ਆਦਿ ਚੀਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤ ਜੇਹੀ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ..ਅਤੇ 9 ਦਿਨ ਇਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੀਵਾ ਜਗਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ..ਦੁਸਿਹਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ (ਕਿਤੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਦਿਵਾਲੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਇਹ ਮੂਰਤ (ਸਾਂਝੀ) ਕੰਧ ਤੋਂ ਲਾਹ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਲ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ... ਅਹੋਈ ਦੇਵੀ ਦਾ ਖਾਸ ਪੂਜਨ ,ਰਾਧਾ ਕੁੰਡ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ..ਇਸ ਜਗਾਹ ਤੇ ਯਾਤਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਅਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ..( ਮਹਾਨ ਕੋਸ਼ ) ਸਿਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹਨਾ ਚੀਜਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਸਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ..ਪਰ ਅੱਜ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ 80 % ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਖ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ..ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਸਲੋਕ ਪੜੋ.. ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ , ਅਹੋਈ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ ਗਦਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਅਉਤਰੈ , ਭਾਰੁ ਸਹੈ ਮਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ ( 1370 )

bhagat kabir ji on page 1370 warns about the saanjhi fast/worship of seetla mata, ahoi naar, mother of smallpox etc etc..but reality today is 90% of punjab villages have the above moortee and its worshipped..depsite bahagat kabir jis warning...

but if we don't keep fasts how can we stop karma??? how can we stop the rebirth cycle?? next you will be advocating we stop taking into account castes. or stopping dowries!

What next?? telling Gurdwaras to stop celebrating pooranmashi? Stop bowing at trees that Guruji touched? destruction of all the historical artifacts that show the miracles of our great Gurus???

Maybe we should give up meditation and chanting of bani?? How am I going to bless my house and car if the granthi does not include it in the Ardass??

This seems a very very strange strain of Sikhism, almost like the Vedic aspect is not important at all......

Gyani ji An amazing find! With your indulgence I wanted to post a few verses from Kabeer ji so readers would have a context for it.

Salokas from Kabeer ji on Ang 1370


ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੈ ਅਹੋਈ ਰਾਖੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
Kabīr har kā simran cẖẖād kai aho▫ī rākẖai nār.
Kabeer, the woman who gives up meditation on the Lord, and observes the ritual fast of Ahoi,

ਗਦਹੀ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਅਉਤਰੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਸਹੈ ਮਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥੧੦੮॥
Gaḏhī ho▫e kai a▫uṯarai bẖār sahai man cẖār. ||108||
shall be reincarnated as a donkey, to carry heavy burdens. ||108||

ਕਬੀਰ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਅਤਿ ਘਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Kabīr cẖaṯurā▫ī aṯ gẖanī har jap hirḏai māhi.
Kabeer, it is the most clever wisdom, to chant and meditate on the Lord in the heart.

ਸੂਰੀ ਊਪਰਿ ਖੇਲਨਾ ਗਿਰੈ ਤ ਠਾਹਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧੦੯॥
Sūrī ūpar kẖelnā girai ṯa ṯẖāhar nāhi. ||109||
It is like playing on a pig; if you fall off, you will find no place of rest. ||109||


Harry ji Some readers are not going to hear your voice and get the wrong idea. Kabeer ji was thinking of you!

What is amazing is that alongside the puja of the mother of small pox is another idea that goes like this. Anyone whose face is disfigured by small pox will have all bad karams forgiven and will find moksha immediately upon death. The world is snarled in contradictions. Why do the puja? Is this not the wiser puja?

ਕਬੀਰ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਅਤਿ ਘਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
Kabīr cẖaṯurā▫ī aṯ gẖanī har jap hirḏai māhi.
Kabeer, it is the most clever wisdom, to chant and meditate on the Lord in the heart.

Kabeer ji continues with a note of irony. If you do the puja of the mother of smallpox, you will find no place of rest, but carry heavy burdens, like a donkey, all that remains of your life. Kabeer ji points to the practice that "purifies" everyone.


ਕਬੀਰ ਸਈ ਮੁਖੁ ਧੰਨਿ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਹੀਐ ਰਾਮੁ ॥
Kabīr so▫ī mukẖ ḏẖan hai jā mukẖ kahī▫ai rām.
Kabeer, blessed is that mouth, which utters the Lord's Name.

ਦੇਹੀ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਬਾਪੁਰੀ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਗ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥੧੧੦॥
Ḏehī kis kī bāpurī paviṯar ho▫igo garām. ||110||
It purifies the body, and the whole village as well. ||110||

That is the puja that gets results.

and yet many find salvation in this,

I have a customer whose son cannot find a job, he is hugely qualified and has cost his father some £40,000 in gaining a first class degree.

He works for his father in his scrapyard, and until he can find a job in IT, his chosen degree, every day he wakes up, and has to move a massive pile of **** from one end of the yard to another, when he has finished, he reports to his father, who inspects the ****, nods, and then he has to move it back again, he has to do this every day until he finds a job.

Amazingly there are those that live life like this. to me this is the definitive definition of all ritual.

It is like playing on a pig; if you fall off, you will find no place of rest.
