Recently, someone shared a video of OSHO that is viral on internet (
) in which he regurgitates that he was stopped from entry in the precincts of Golden temple because he refused to cover his head. In his defense he quotes Guru Nanak Sahib's experience at Kaba.
OSHO is a brilliant philosopher and a man of versatile colours and the overall message in this video is quite intriguing. However, his concern in this video about he being not allowed to enter the Golden temple because of his refusal to cover his head, is profoundly ill founded and misleading. No matter how brilliant his discourses or his challenges of contemporary religious practices may be, we must not follow him or anyone else blindly and go along with what some one says or writes through blogs or other modes WITHOUT CRITICAL THINKING -- THIS IS WHAT OUR GURU'S TOUGHT US - use Bibak Budh.
Yes, he was a brilliant philosopher and he might have read Jap Ji but I am not sure if he knows anything more about Sikh School of Thought.
He went to Golden Temple and apparently did not have any issue taking off his shoes (out of respect as he might have done at other religious places) but he was adamant that he would not cover his head because God is everywhere. He then has the audacity to quote Guru Nanak Sahib’s profound experience at Kaba but he does not seem to know that in Sikhi, there is a foundational distinction between GURU and GOD -- GURU IS AN INTERMEDIATE THRESHOLD in the journey towards GOD. In Sikhi the primary goal of a devotee is to connect with GURU; once connected with GURU then GURU guides and connects him with GOD.
While GOD is everywhere GURU is not. Golden Temple is GURU Ka Dawar- it is Gurudawara— it is GURU’s house not only GOD’s house - GOD’s house is everywhere; Guru’s house is where Guru Granth Sahib is present. He was being asked to respect GURU by covering his head the same way he voluntarily took off his shoes out of respect as he must have been doing while visiting other temples.
Kudos to all those who stopped him from entering the Golden Temple for his refusal to respect our Guru by covering his head.
