I do not know what you are looking for, i have been studying Sree Guru Granth Sahib for over 50 years. i cannot or will not quote words for words from sggs. what i understood is this way

firstly there is one God who created the creation. he or she is one who blesses the salvation and cannot be seen.

there is second God or the guru, who has God enshrined in his mind and knows the process how to become divine.

word Wahiguru; Bhat Gayand on page 1402 and 1403 of sggs meditates and keeps on saying wah guru wah guru while worshipping. then he combined the two together and made word wahiguru for God. According to sikh philosophy only way to realize God is through the guru, there is no other way. all other processes are man made through the brain.

To become godly involves the guru and God. According to baba Nanak God sat in the darkness for 36 ages. then he worshipped the inner hidden knowledge that is called the guru and came into existence. God made guru the middle man to realize him. Everything or being wants to live in a clean place. So is God. God is omnipresent and hidden in the mind through soul. Our soul is God. In order realize God one has to cleanse his or her soul God is hidden. he or she does not come or go. He is realized by cleansing your mind and soul. Different people have different systems set up to worship God through religion. But in sggs to be godly there are rules to cleanse the soul.

When a being is born. he or she has human code of conduct in him, ei; do not lie, no, greed, anger lust and ego. as soon as the being is born the ears start to hear and the mind starts to distract. After a few days the child starts to see and what it sees is the surroundings which has been created by God and it further distracts him. Then many other things add up and the mind gets polluted.

in order for the being to become Godly is , love, dedication to remember or meditate, humility and guru's teaching.

First three have small amount of affect but guidance to the mind. Guru’s teaching has the most affect. The sggs is guru in the form of a book, because it has all the instructions, how to obtain salvation. The guru gives a lesson to the student to recite with all above instructions. When the follower becomes proficient . If the follower follows all above, the Guru knows your mind and then he or she transfers the divine knowledge in the mind of the follower telepathically from mind to mind and enlightens him.

your question is how and how many times one has to recite wahiguru. Repetition is necessary depending upon the state of mind of the follower. The follower gets very close to the guru by following his teachings, but if he or she enshrines guru's picture in the mind while saying wahiguru, it stops the mind from wandering

if the follower or the newly born child who has religious code of conduct in him and meets the above criteria, he or she may only have to say God a very few times. On the other hand if one's mind does not concentrate, with love dedication and humility may keep on saying God all his life, it will have no effect.

Different religions have designed their own word for God such as God. allah. ram. wahiguru jahova and many more. you can have your own word to designate wahiguru or the creator so long you meet the above conditions. Most negative thinking which make a person ungodly is doubt and slander. One may recite God while sleeping or awake but if he has doubt in his mind, it has nil affect, next is slandering. A slanderer wants something the other person has but without any sincere effort. This destabilizes the mind of the slander more and takes him away from godliness. The slander to a good person is a good thing. it make him understand his shortcoming and he corrects it, but on the other hand if he slanders back or does not like it that makes him more ungodly than the slanderer.

Salvation; we are sent here to cleanse our soul and mind and merge with God. when one cleanses his soul, the soul becomes God and realizes God in the mind. there is nothing to give or take., according to sggs, once one obtains salvation, merges with God and does not take birth again.

all above i wrote is reading and learning from sggs, I am not godly. i have many shortcomings which i think and try to eliminate. i hop[e this may have something for you to understand and follow. thank u
