Travelling from Mind to Soul

Dr Dalvinder Singh Grewal

We are all attached to the world kind courtesy our mind. We are also attached to God kind courtesy our soul. Our mind controls our body and senses and the senses are the outlets of the body towards the world. Our body’s needs like hunger, thirst, taste, pains, pleasures all originate in the mind. These feelings of senses can be controlled by the mind only. We know of the people who remained hungry or thirsty for many days. One has to forego tastes of the items from which we cannot pay. A mother bears extreme labour pains happily as she expect her new born to be in front of him soon. We are overjoyed to see our child who have just done exceedingly well in his class. All these are thus the creations of our mind.

Saints control their mind when they desire to concentrate on The God while doing meditation. World is considered an unfathomable ocean of problems which stops one from getting attached to The God. A meditating person has learnt to get detached from this world so that he can fully concentrate on the God. The individual is required to attach his soul to the Grand Soul (parmatma). He can do this when he is detached from all worldly attachments which are controlled only by the mind. When the mind desires something and thinks about it or forgoes something or accepts anything, he feels pleasure while getting but pain when giving; he is then in bind with the world. But when the mind has no desires nor he thinks about anything; neither he gives up anything nor he accepts anything; neither he is pained nor he finds pleasure in acquisition: he is stated to be in a state of salvation from desires. When the mind and the intellect are not engaged in any scene or matter, he is not in a bind. When the mind and the intellect are away from all scenes and matters, he is freed; he is salvaged.
