"Special" grandfather Gurmail Singh was about to close his corner shop when he was beaten to death with a weapon, believed to be a hammer.
The 63-year-old was struck at least nine times in last month's raid which claimed just a few packs of cigarettes, bags of coins and some chewing gum.
Speaking at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sikh temple in Huddersfield, West Yorks, niece Baljit Sandhu, 41, said: "He was a special man who touched so many people and the family has been broken.
"He just needed to smile and it warmed us up." Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=29659
Two 20-year-old men and three 17-year-old boys have appeared in court charged with the murder of Mr Singh and robbery.

| | | | | Re: Thousands attend the funeral of murdered Sikh shopkeeper. I feel the need to say something, and I have no idea what to say. Another one of us killed. Why? Running after a purse thief, refusing to convert to Islam, for cigarettes and coins and chewing gum. Whatever the reason or method, they are dead from some sort of malice. And we grieve. Even though we never knew them personally, these three Sikhs show the spirit of what it means to be Sikh. We will miss them.
