Texas colleges may have to accept kids with guns

Republicans in the Texas Senate have approved a measure that may allow concealed handgun license holders to carry weapons into public college buildings and classrooms.
Private universities will be exempt.
Senator Jeff Wentworth of San Antonio has been trying to muster votes this year to pass the issue.
While he has met resistance from college officials along the way, the measure, which had stalled, is now through.
The Senate's minority Democrats were powerless to stop it on Monday when it was tacked on to a university spending bill.
With supporters calling it a critical self-defense measure, opponents are more concerned about violence which has previously been attributed to young people in schools.
During the reading of the measure, Wentworth recalled the 2007 mass shooting at Virginia Tech University, when a gunman killed 32 people.
He said because of that incident, he preferred a situation whereby students would be able to defend themselves.
He said: "There was no one there to defend themselves in a gun-free zone. I'm trying to avoid that type of situation."
In Texas, gun license holders must be at least 21 and pass a training course.
