    Re: Why hijab in Islam??????

I'm sorry but your posts are increasingly difficult to understand. They are largely incomprehensible and might actually be saying the opposite of what you intend sometimes. You might be at risk of spreading misinformation about your own religion, Naben ji.

When talking about hijab, one needs to be very clear about the meaning of the term 'hijab' and precise with which garments one is describing.

My understanding is that the degree of coverage a woman must observe in Islam is a matter of debate within the community itself. Anything you tell us would only be one side of the argument unless you can provide an article which covers (haha) the entire issue.

    Re: Why hijab in Islam??????

Naben ji, some Muslim women do not wear a headscarf, yet some others feel everything should be covered except the eyes (niqab) and yet others want everything covered except one eye, and others again say they woman shouldn't be seen at all and so we have the burqa with the screen over the eyes.

Sikh women should not wear a veil over their faces and are prohibited from veiling their faces in Darbar Sahib, Waheguru! Dhan Dhan Guru Amar Das Ji wouldn't hold audience with a woman wearing a veil.

If being veiled should remove the threat to personal safety, why is Afghanistan, famous for burqas, also famous for violence against women?

Arguments as you have presented here do a disservice to Muslim men by giving the impression they cannot control their lust in any way. That a mere glimpse of a woman will send them into a lusty rage.

It says nothing from the woman's perspective - it is all about the men, men, men and it is a bit patronizing when you say women are but for the adornment of men (yet women can't have any adornment themselves, not even a pretty headscarf, according to the information you presented).

When I was a member of a Muslimah forum, many of the women there were very fond of their headscarves, abayas, and even niqab. It was for them a connection to Allah, they felt they were obeying Allah, and in Sikh terms I think they felt their hijab was a curtain between them and the Maya in the outside world. I think it's wonderful that they read for themselves and make educated decisions about what they want to wear without some men saying 'If you don't cover yourself up I'm going to rape you!' which is kinda how it sounds when men try to tell women that hijab is so necessary for them. I find myself thinking, perhaps men should be taking a little bit more responsibility for themselves...

Unfortunately, hijab doesn't protect women for abuse and assault. The only thing that will protect women is proper education of everyone - men and women. And even then, a bad apple is not going to think twice about abusing a woman just because she's wearing some kind of covering.

And Western society has problems, and so does the Arab world Naben. The Arab world is not perfect (as much as you'd like to believe it is). However, the root of all evil in Western civilisation is not because women don't cover up everything except their face and palms.

Also, I've done my learning on Islamic websites, watching Islamic da'wah shows on TV, and speaking with actual Muslims and hearing their life experiences and referring to their sources. This is a much better way than one person bringing their views to me on my own turf, so to speak, where I am more inclined to give a response from the Sikh perspective and not give the subject proper consideration or further investigation.

Also what about the man who is aroused by covered women? It is a fetish for some men. Is that the sin of the woman as well?

    Respected members

You say the Taliban and Afghanistan
    And

These countries punish the victim and the abuse of Islam
    so
I am talking about Islamic law

-- The punishment for rape in Islam: For the rapist punishment for adultery, which is stoning if he was married, and one hundred lashes and banishment for one year if he is not married.
The fact that the rapist was punishment for adultery, that's what you do not rape threat - weapons, it was at gunpoint, it would be a warrior, and applies the limit mentioned in the verse: ((33) Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment) Round / 33.
He chooses the ruling of the sanctions of the four mentioned in the verse as it deems appropriate, and the interest of achieving a common security and safety in the community, the assailants reportedly corrupt.

-Woman does not have any punishment
    Condition
    Forensic doctor
    Punishment for men only

-Rape is taking something by force and injustice, and is now used exclusively to refer to symptoms of abuse of women by force.
Ugly, a crime forbidden in all religions and is at all wise people and owners of the normal mushrooms, and all regulations and laws of this land the laborers, and signed by the most severe penalties, with the exception of some countries that raise the punishment for a rapist if he marries his victim! It demonstrates the reversal of instinct and dementia, as well as the lack of religion or lack thereof when those who Dedua God says in the legislation, we do not know any affection and mercy will be between the executioner and his victim, especially since the pain of rape does not remove days and also just time - as they say - and so I tried many of the suicide and was raped a number of what many of them to Jordan, has proven the failure of these marriages, but not accompanied by humiliation and degradation of women

    -Must study Islam properly
You will feel surprised and admired

    hijab

Imposition of the veil is the duty of every Muslim woman and not a choice, such as prayer and fasting
    And so on

Muslim women which does not wear the hijab,
Disobeying the orders of Allah and His Messenger

Allah says in the Holy Qur'an
    36. It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed in a plain error.

    But
    In Judaism and Christianity also

    Muslim women wear the veil

In the Church (nuns) wears a veil

allah does not impose anything that causes harm to mankind but the opposite

    -Hijaab for men

People usually only discuss 'hijaab' in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur'an, Allah (swt) first mentions 'hijaab' for men before 'hijaab' for the women. The Qur'an mentions in Surah An Noor:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."

    [Al Qur'an 24:30]

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

    Re: Why hijab in Islam??????

How on earth did the word 'mushroom' make it into your post about hijab?

So you're telling me that no veiled woman, whether Muslim or Catholic, is ever raped or abused because God doesn't allow bad things to happen to them? So, how come it still happens, all over the world? Because *drum roll* a headscarf isn't the cure-all of society.

Also, it is your opinion that women must wear hijab (however you want to define it) as I have seen some people who argue it is in fact optional.

    naben ji
Can you please through some light on the hudood law. It was passed in Pakistan Parliament based on Islamic laws.

According to this ordinance a rape can only be proven if there are 4 adult Muslim male eyewitnesses. Otherwise not.
In case of a non Muslim victim, non Muslim eyewitness is acceptable.

    http://www.pakistani.org/pakistan/legislation/zia_po_1979/ord7_1979.html

What are your views on this? Dont you think a woman is hard done by here. And if there are 4 Muslim eyewitnesses to the rape then why do they do nothing to stop it?

    Respected members

verse of Surah An Noor, says:

"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons ... "

    [Al Qur'an 24:31]

    - Hijaab includes conduct and behaviour among other things

Complete 'hijaab', besides the six criteria of clothing, also includes the moral conduct, behaviour, attitude and intention of the individual. A person only fulfilling the criteria of 'hijaab' of the clothes is observing 'hijaab' in a limited sense. 'Hijaab' of the clothes should be accompanied by 'hijaab' of the eyes, 'hijaab' of the heart, 'hijaab' of thought and 'hijaab' of intention. It also includes the way a person walks, the way a person talks, the way he behaves, etc.

The reason why hijaab is prescribed for women is mentioned in the Qur'an in the following verse of Surah Al Ahzaab:

"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad); that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. "

    [Al Qur'an 33:59]

The Qur'an says that Hijaab has been prescribed for the women so that they are recognized as modest women and this will also prevent them from being molested.

    - Example

Suppose two sisters who are twins, and who are equally beautiful, walk down the street. One of them is attired in the Islamic hijaab i.e. the complete body is covered, except for the face and the hands upto the wrists. The other sister is wearing western clothes, a miniskirt or shorts. Just around the corner there is a hooligan or ruffian who is waiting for a catch, to tease a girl. Whom will he tease? The girl wearing the Islamic Hijaab or the girl wearing the skirt or the mini? Naturally he will tease the girl wearing the skirt or the mini. Such dresses are an indirect invitation to the opposite sex for teasing and molestation. The Qur'an rightly says that hijaab prevents women from being molested.

So the hijab an obligation such as the five pillars of Islam

    In Islamic countries
    Delinquent
Known in the inside that veiled Muslim women beautiful more than a woman dressed in scandalous
And wishes to see any part of her
    Candy-covered
    Take hearts
    More than a Stripper

The legitimate boundaries of Islamic law

This within the Holy Qur'an and the Hadith

    1 Adultery
    2 theft
    3. Rape
    4 murder
    5 Divorce
    6 drinking alcohol
    7 Interest
    8 gambling
    9 magic and sorcery
10 slander chaste women, indiscreet but believing
God put laws to these limits in order to correct the community and
And that person thinks a thousand times before doing any heinous crime and is located under penalty of law
And it becomes a lesson for each person

    But
    Islamic countries
Do not apply Islamic law in the Holy Qur'an and the Hadith
    Going fancies
    who is on the whims

    And contrary to
And follow the false doctrines and Shiite Baha'i, and so on

    Pakistan, Afghanistan
until Egypt the (law enforcement French)

Muslim is not pleased about it
But freedom is constrained by oppressive governments the power-hungry

Rights are decided by allah is has enough prestige, respect and sanctity do not dare someone to violate or transgress against them,
Command of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family and the establishment of the border, he said: «Establish the limits of God in the near and long term, do not take you in allah to anybody as long»

    So
This is an appeal to all Muslims and non-Muslims

Islam in the Qur'an and the Hadith

Not in the actions of governments

    allah guided you

Please don't call anyone's religion 'false'. It is not polite.

And in some parts of the world, the Muslimah would unfortunately be harassed because of her hijab clothing, rather than the mini-skirt wearer. That is a sad fact.

It is also a sad fact that women in Islamic countries are exposed to violence even though their wear hijab.

I am grateful to Sikhi for giving me a moral compass which encourages modesty but leaves the specifics up to me.

In other news, I find myself infatuated with the headscarf, and sometimes wish I could wear my chunni more like the muslimahs do.

On the other hand, I'm glad I have the freedom to choose.

As per gurbani, having four wife, by all means degrade feelings of woman by being used as commodities for offering and marrying them to someone who already has wives or confine themselves in ‘purdah’ though psychologically, women of that faith have accepted these unjust rules. They have resigned to male dominance and allowed themselves to become second-class citizens under the concept of modesty. Guru Ji called for upliftment of woman and changed all this with the revelation of the Khalsa. He gave women the opportunity to live life free of the chains of a dogmatic society. Whereas a woman had been contemptuously called a childbearing machine, the Guru respected her for her creativity and said, “Blessed is the mother who creates life” (Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, p. 32). The sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind, respected women by saying, “Woman is the conscience of man.” Unlike the practice and belief prevalent Guru Nanak declared their status not as seducers and corrupters of men but nurturers and companions to be held in high esteem. Many Muslims argue that every person has an aura, thats why they cover their women. But question rises now WHY they don´t cover themself? Obviously the reason why they cover the women is : that they cant control themselfs and want to supress their women. In the Guru Granth Sahib, the veil is compared as demeaning to women. As gurbani tells us, 'bhulan andar sabh ko abhul guru kartar - only God who does not make mistake. If it was that bad God wouldn't have made catch woman for man but would have covered the face of woman at the time of birth.

Further killing woman in the name of ‘honor killing’. The problem of ‘honor killings’ is not a problem of morality or of ensuring that women maintain their own personal virtue; rather, it is a problem of domination, power and hatred of women who, in these instances, are viewed as nothing more than servants to the family, both physically and symbolically. Thus in our concept of life, religion and politics, the female gender takes no priority but Sikhi and Guru does. The physical gender takes no priority in the matters of this world. In the context of Gurbani, we are all women and only Waheguru is the male. I think we are all aware of that? They were considered a subordinate entity, worthy after the death of their husband only to be burned on their partner's funeral pire (an act referred to as sati). Guru Nanak was appalled by this societal behaviour, and rightly spoke out against it. In many respects, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first women's rights campaigner in the sub-continent (and perhaps even the world), which is kinda neat.

    Best regards
    Mohinder Singh

Having relations with more than 1 woman is adulterous. Therefore a man with 4 'wives' is committing adultery by default and should be punished as on a spiritual level marriage with more than 1 person is not possible!!

    my dear brother

    Wives
    Marriage in Islam
    Several cases
1 - the marriage of one wife
This happens for the majority of Muslims

2 - to marry two wives or more to four
Not any person can marry four wives
    There are certain conditions
Justice among them - to spend on them - the ability of health - the provision of adequate housing

Punishment on a spiritual level, why?
This is the law of Allah
    Is applied to certain cases
To save society from destruction and falling into sin and adultery
Widow its own - the widow and her children - Women do not have a husband and so

    A simple example
In Iraq, Palestine, and many countries are full of war and colonialism
You will find widows and orphans and the homeless
    What is the solution here?

    Women can divorce easily
In case of dissatisfaction with polygamy
    This is their legitimate rights

Therefore, Islamic law inside the solutions to all problems of society

Do not look to bad examples, which continuously married without needless

    Islam is bigger than that
Another kind of wisdom is only known for a number of scholars steeped in the Sharia.
The second type of wisdom: but no one knows except the Prophet inspired by God Almighty.
The third type of wisdom: What accounted for Allah - Almighty - his knowledge

    allah duided you.

Brother Naben, I'm sorry but I can keep trying to read and make sense of the reasons given, however I can't buy or accept this way of life the way I am.

It just seems too far fetched and extreme to kindly accept.

Nor is it actually natural or equal. :motherlylove:

One cannot have a loving, mutual relationship with two or four women. Love like that can only be experienced between two people who pledge themselves to each other.

To be sexually involved at the same time with two, three or four women in legalized unions is simply unethical. It would be founded surely upon self-gratification for the man, mere pleasure.

Polygamy destroys this intimate bond of affection, and it is not good for children to grow up in any other home except a stable, monogamous relationship between two people who love and support each other. There is science to back this up.

Otherwise the sexual act would not require one male sexual organ and one female sexual organ. It is the natural order for one man's semen and one women's feritilized egg to create a new life. You cannot create life with multiple sperm fertilizing one egg - one sperm, one egg..."When you make the two into one" as Jesus tells us.

Catholics believe that there are two books of primary revelation (for our faith): The Bible and Nature.

We must heed the natural law ordained by God and polygamy is clearly contrary to it.

Thanks be to God that in this era there should be equality between men and women. To be in a relationship in which a woman must share affections of a man with other women is not equality but legalized adultery. It reduces marriage to property rights.

Sharing a husband would lead to it being a purely physical, erotic, lustful relationship and an unequal one at that. The very core of the sexual act between man and wife is to express commitment and fidelity and a spiritual coming together, a true union between two bodies, minds and souls which manifests the oneness of God. This oneness cannot be found within polygamy.

I am sorry brother Naben but that is how I and most 21st century people see it. We will not revert back to patriarchal, male supremacist norms :(

And yet polygamy is not outlawed in Sikhi according to the SGPC rehat maryada... It is discouraged but allowed. Figure that out.

As pro monogamy as I am, I still think there may be merit in communal living where men can have more than one wife when then women are together and raise the children together, as in some of the native tribes you see around. Perhaps monogamy is actually what encourages jealousy and attachment?

And also, one man with four wives can generate far more offspring than one woman with many husbands. And frankly, it's hard enough keeping up with just one!! Lol

I can also see legalised polygamy in Islam in historical context- pre Islam Arab tribes treated women far worse than Islam and had no limit on the number of wives, with no responsibility for them.

And lets not forget that todays Muslims usually have just one wife anyway, and a woman can specify in her marriage contract that she can be his only wife.

    Thank you
    This wonderful illustration

    Respected members
    and
    For further clarification

The status of women in Islam is often the target of attacks in the secular media. The ‘hijaab’ or the Islamic dress is cited by many as an example of the ‘subjugation’ of women under Islamic law. Before we analyze the reasoning behind the religiously mandated ‘hijaab’, let us first study the status of women in societies before the advent of Islam.

    1. In the past women were degraded and used as objects of lust

The following examples from history amply illustrate the fact that the status of women in earlier civilizations was very low to the extent that they were denied basic human dignity:

    1. Babylonian Civilization:

The women were degraded and were denied all rights under the Babylonian law. If a man murdered a woman, instead of him being punished, his wife was put to death.

    2. Greek Civilization:

Greek Civilization is considered the most glorious of all ancient civilizations. Under this very ‘glorious’ system, women were deprived of all rights and were looked down upon. In Greek mythology, an ‘imaginary woman’ called ‘Pandora’ is the root cause of misfortune of human beings. The Greeks considered women to be subhuman and inferior to men. Though chastity of women was precious, and women were held in high esteem, the Greeks were later overwhelmed by ego and sexual perversions. Prostitution became a regular practice amongst all classes of Greek society.

    3. Roman Civilization:

When Roman Civilization was at the zenith of its ‘glory’, a man even had the right to take the life of his wife. Prostitution and nudity were common amongst the Romans.

    4. Egyptian Civilization:

The Egyptian considered women evil and as a sign of a devil.

    5. Pre-Islamic Arabia:

Before Islam spread in Arabia, the Arabs looked down upon women and very often when a female child was born, she was buried alive.

    2. Islam uplifted women and gave them equality and expects them to maintain their status

Islam uplifted the status of women and granted them their just rights 1400 years ago. Islam expects women to maintain their status.

    In the Bible, also:

    Jesus did not prohibit polygamy,

    2 Chronicles 13:21 (BLB)
Abijah waxed great, and married 14 wives, and begat twenty and two sons and daughters 16.

    2 Chronicles 11:21 (BLB)
I like Rehoboam Maacah daughter of Absalom above all his wives and concubines for him, because he took 18 wives and concubines 60, was born twenty and eight sons and daughters 60.

For the Prophet Sulaiman [Solomon], and I think you know without martyrdom, had hundreds of wives and concubines hundreds.

After these things known until Ibrahim ... And his concubine, whose name also carries a good Reumah of, Gaham, Thahash and Maacah.

And the sons of concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he was living until now, the east, even in the East (Genesis 25:6)

How about Sarah and told Abraham to go to the concubine Hagar, as you know, probably emigrated did not want to. It was then you know what happened, she left in the desert. Remember God is God of Abraham, as a concubine and her child, but that it was.

Again, do not place Jesus may Allah be pleased with him, did not prevent polygamy, but Islam limit the number of wives to four
Islamic law is clear and convincing

illustrate the great truth of Islam

Study of Islam is different already heard from the media
Feel that there is someone fool you
And wants to walk away from the truth

    allah guided you
