Why are some relational databases hard to maintain?

    I am a student and am looking for an answer as to why some relational

    Hard to maintain in what way? I'm not aware of any essential reason why
    relational databases would be hard to maintain. My guess is that this
    question stems from some course material in which specific
    maintainability issues are discussed. You'd better go back to that
    material and look it over. Then maybe come back here with more specific
    questions.

    I would guess the answer is "Because they are poorly designed" Usually
    that means they have not been properly normalized. If this is a class
    project, I hope you already know what normalization is and can figure out
    why improper normalization is a prime cause of problems.
