Salok

ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
Agam agāḏẖ pārbarahm so▫e. Jo jo kahai so mukṯā ho▫e.
The supreme creator is beyond reproach and infinite. Those who revere, such are salvaged.

ਸੁਨਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਾ ॥ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਅਚਰਜ ਕਥਾ ॥੧॥
Sun mīṯā Nānak binvanṯā. Sāḏẖ janā kī acẖraj kathā. ||1||
Listen friend, Nanak is praying. Pious people have uniquely different style.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥

ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਤ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਲੁ ਸਗਲੀ ਖੋਤ ॥
Sāḏẖ kai sang mukẖ ūjal hoṯ. Sāḏẖsang mal saglī kẖoṯ.
In the company of the pious, face becomes pure. With the pious all dirt is eliminated.

ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੈ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
Sāḏẖ kai sang mitai abẖimān.
In the company of the pious, ego is erased. In the company of the pious, better thinking shows up.

ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਤ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
Sāḏẖ kai sang bujẖai parabẖ nerā. Sāḏẖsang sabẖ hoṯ niberā.
In the company of the pious, one finds the creator to be near. With the pious all conflicts are resolved.

ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ॥ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਏਕ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਤਨੁ ॥
Sāḏẖ kai sang pā▫e nām raṯan. Sāḏẖ kai sang ek ūpar jaṯan.
In the company of the pious, one finds the kernel of knowledge. In the company of the pious, effort is directed at finding one.

ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਬਰਨੈ ਕਉਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
Sāḏẖ kī mahimā barnai ka▫un parānī. Nānak sāḏẖ kī sobẖā parabẖ māhi samānī. ||1||
Which person can elaborate on virtues of the pious. Nanak, virtues of the pious equal like those of the creator.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state the infiniteness of the creator and enormous value in of knowing so for salvation. Guru ji find the company and the virtues of the pious as being with the likeness of creator.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 7, 1st stanza describe what happens when one finds company of a truly pious. The goodness shows, the dirt of mind is eliminated, ego is erased, better thoughts come about, one start seeing the creator in nearness many conflicts of mind are resolved. All this leads to resulting discovery of fundamental understanding through directed effort.

Guru ji value such company of the pious so highly and liken it to the pious being like the creator.
