BETONG (Sarawak), Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian police regularly liaise with Interpol (International Criminal Police Organisation) to monitor terrorist activities in the country, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said Monday.

He said, keeping continuous surveillance on such activities and carrying out related operations were not limited to reports and external information.

"Terrorists seeking refuge in Malaysia will not be spared from local and international laws," he said.

Musa was asked to comment on a Bernama report last week that four suspected Sikh militants from Punjab -- belonging to the outlawed Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) -- were in hiding in Malaysia.

He noted that while the Punjab police had not directly contacted their Malaysian counterparts over the fugitive Sikh militants in Malaysia, the local police had contacted the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi for more information to facilitate investigations.

Musa was speaking to reporters after launching the new Betong police station here.

On Aug 1, Bernama from New Delhi quoted Patiala police chief Senior Superintendent Ranbir Singh Khatra as saying the Indian police would like to use diplomatic ties by asking the Malaysian Government for help in combating violence and the militants.

He had said that the KLF set up base on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur and that at least four of its members were still in the country.

In a related development, Federal Special Task Force (Operations and Counter- Terrorism) Department director Datuk Mohamed Fuzi Harun had said the police were aware of the KLF existence in Malaysia.

The Malaysian police have contacted the Malaysian High Commission in India for more information on four Sikh militants said to have been hiding in Malaysia.

Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan made this remark here on Monday after launching the new police station here.

While the Malaysian police were ready to investigate the case, Musa said the Punjab police, who claimed the four suspected militants were hiding in Malaysia, had not contacted their Malaysian counterparts.

Bernama, the Malaysian national news agency, reported earlier that the Punjab police said the militant group had set up bases in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, with four of its members hiding in the country.

Musa said that the Malaysian police regularly cooperate with the International Criminal Police Organization to monitor terrorist activities in the country.

Therefore, terrorists seeking refuge in Malaysia would not be spared from local and international laws, added Musa.

Earlier, Malaysian Home Affairs Ministry assured that the relevant agencies in the country are closely monitoring all suspected militants in Malaysia to prevent the nation's security from being threatened.

Terrorists are terrorists are terrorists

There can be no justification for their acts regardless of ideology

Is this not the group that executed a religious leader in Vienna last year and attempted to do so again last month, this time with a Radha Soami leader?

Do not be mislead by the surface information. The article has to be read at more than one level.

Note the paragraph which stats that the Malaysian authroties sought clear information from the police authorities in Punjab, but instead they received it from the Malaysian delegation in Delhi India. That is the key to what is going on winkingmunda

Briefly. The messages about SIKH terrorists hiding in Malaysia had been reported in the India Press for 2-3 weeks. This may be true. But Malaysia did not know anything about it on their own intelligence. It came as a surprise to them as Punjab authorities were holding press conferences about it. For 3 weeks they asked for more information. Did not get it. Then one morning the Malaysian diplomatic corp had the information and shared it.

Who gave it to them?

After that the Malaysia government solemnly promises to weed Sikh terrorists out.

The subtext of this report is all wrong. Maybe you have to be a cynic to see why. Maybe you just need to understand the international politics of this situation. Personally I hope that Malaysian authorities show more insight than their counterparts in India and do not go on a program of systematic round ups.
