I have a database that I'm working on and I want to add attachments to
    certain records.
Each attachment could be an email message or a text file or even a zip
    file.
Is it possible to import such files into a table and how do I go about
    doing it?

Well... you can create an OLE Object field. But importing totally
generic, undefined-structure objects (not even separate files, unless
you save the EMail messages as external .msg files) is probably going
to be very difficult, and will certainly rapidly bloat your database
    to enormous size.

Could you perhaps just store a Hyperlink field in your table to launch
    the "attachment"?

    That sounds preferred.

What would the code be to select a file, copy it to the location and
name it something specific, whilst keeping a hyperlink stored in a
    table?

Doable... but more complex than I'd be comfortable posting air code.

There are VBA operations for copying and killing files, renaming them,
and constructing hyperlinks from filenames - but the details would
depend on your requirements, and a fair bit of testing and design
work, beyond what I'd consider appropriate for unpaid volunteer work.
Maybe someone else has something similar already written or in their
head and will jump in to this thread.
