how can i put a database on a cd and still get queries from it

    I need to put a database on CD but it always says "read only" how can i make
    the cd queryable?

    I doubt that you can. Access generates an additional file (called a lock
    file, I believe) when it is being used, and therefore requires read/write
    permissions for the folder in which it is located.

    CD's by nature are read only even the read-write type.

    However you might (I have not tried it) be able to create a new database
    on the computer's hard drive and then link to the tables so you can then
    create a query in the new database based on the values on the CD. You will
    not be able to use an update query.

    The fact that the CD is read only should not stop your query from
    running....

    If the query outputs data to another table, well...then of couse you can't
    do that....

    The suggestion to use linked tables in the above case shoudl work....
