2011-01-02 05:30:00

Hindus have sent early greetings to Sikh communities world over for upcoming birthday of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib (1666-1708), tenth Guru of Sikhism.

Well known Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a release in Nevada (USA) today, expressed warmest greetings on this sacred occasion, wishing that it brought joy, happiness, blessings and cheer to all.

Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.

Founded by Guru Nanak Sahib (born 1469), Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world. Birthday celebrations of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib usually include reading of holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib, special assemblies in gurdwaras, discourses, processions (nagar-kirtan) through towns/cities chanting holy hymns, gatkas (battle display with traditional weapons), kirtan-darbar, amrit-sanchar, langar (community meal), illuminations, friends/families exchanging greetings, etc. (ANI)
