I have a Transaction database created in Access 2003. We would like to
install this in 60 different stores, however we have numbered these
stores from S001 to S060. The idea is that when the database is opened
the Store number will come automatically in the store number box.
However the field must not be changed after the store number is
entered. In other words what we would like to do is when the database
is opened the VERY FIRST TIME it should ask for the STORE NUMBER and
once the store number is entered we would like it to show up in the
field STORE NUMBER and it MUST stay there. This field must be non
    editable. Can anyone help?

  2. Loading...

  3. Well you could have a form that starts up and as part of the form load event
checks a table for a value if the value is true then this is first time the
program has been run. In that case your load form opens a dialog box
prompting for the user to put in the store number. This number is then
stored in a table which isn't accessed by any other form ever after

Then just set the check field to fals and that form will never pop up again
if you want to secure the table from further editing by people viewing the
table itself you are going to have to play with the permissions and setup
users for the database and make sure only one user has write permissions and
that you are the only one with that password to that account.

When the application first opens, have it pop up a form that lets them
select their store (from a combo box, likely). Once they've supplied the
store id, open your normal switchboard, or any form you want, and have the
store id on that form, in a locked field. Refer to that locked field
whenever you want to know the store.
