    I've tried input masks with/without the "!", I don't see any difference
either way. The Help screen reads "Causes the input mask to display from
right to left, rather than from left to right." Would appreciate somebody
    explaining its purpose.

    Hi RC,

I believe this KB article will answer your question:

ACC2000: Input Mask Character (!) Does Not Work as Expected
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=209049

Disregard the "ACC2000" in the title of this article. It applies equally
well to other versions of Access.
