Ex-Jathedar's son held for molesting a woman

SGPC suspends the Ragi

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has suspended its employee Ajay Singh, a Ragi (hymn reciter), following complaint against him by Canada based women for misbehaviour.

Ajay allegedly molested the women at her home during his Canada tour. He was to conduct some religious program at Calgary where he molested the women and the matter reached the police and he was arrested. He was posted at Golden Temple and he is the son of former Akal Takht Jathedar Jathedar Giani Puran Singh, said the SGPC officials.

SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar said as soon as he received news about his employee's arrest in Canada, he immediately ordered his suspension. The sources said he had gone to the foreign country to perform kirtan at various gurdwaras and was on leave from SGPC.

His father Giani Puran Singh himself had been surrounded by controversies during his tenure as Akal Takht jathedar in 1999. He was in news for excommunicated former president of SGPC, Bibi Jagir Kaur, for violating the directives on Nanakshahi Calendar through an edict (Hukamnama) and he was later sacked for the act from the post of Jathedar.
