Ex-Jathedar praises Sonia
Lashes out at Badal, Sidhu

Former Jathedar of Akal Takht Bhai Ranjit Singh today eulogised Sonia Gandhi, president of the Congress, for giving a chance to Dr Manmohan Singh to serve the nation as Prime Minister for yet another term.

Talking to The Tribune here today, the former Jathedar said Dr Manmohan Singh had been instrumental in projecting the distinct identity of Sikhs all over the world due to his honesty and statesmanship. “What the SGPC and the SAD could not do for the community after spending crores, Dr Manmohan Singh did within a few years,” he said.

Describing Dr Manmohan Singh as “24-carat gold”, Bhai Ranjit Singh said the ruling SAD and the SGPC failed to give due honour to such a gentleman PM. He, however, blamed BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu for allegedly spoiling the image of Sikhs through his laughter shows.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the Jathedar alleged that he was responsible for destroying the age-old Sikh institutions. The SAD always exploited the issue of Delhi-riots during the elections. He alleged that Badal was sitting on a chair during an akhand path held at Akal Takht in gross violation of the Sikh Maryada.

In 2004, then SGPC’s secretary Manjit Singh Calcutta had earned the wrath of the SAD for praising Sonia for projecting Dr Manmohan Singh as PM.

The position of Akal Takhat Jathedar, has come to such that people like Badal can hire and fire people at will now......

Does it actually mean anything other than being Badal's pawn today?

and people still continue to bury their heads in the sand and cry...Akal Takaht is SUPREME !! Obey its orders..they come straight from Akal Purakh Himself...
They cant see or dont want to see that these "orders" came from BADAL..who is not even a GOOD SIKH..far from being Akal Purakh !!!:advocate::advocate::advocate:

Just shows you though Gyani ji. How they have whisked Jathedars out when required...Bhai Ranjit Singh, the one that just left....it's like that position is a very...errr...fluid one.....

Keepers of the Akal Bunga used to be Nihungs with their own independence and military strength....

OMG.

This man who probably oversaw the most backward phase of the Sikh Paanth ever (the langaar chairs fiasco comes to mind) now is praising Congresswalay.

I never cease to be amazed.

The Jatt Tarkhan Monopoly at the SGPC coming to an end maybe?

Yeh Randip, this guys decision on chairs couldn't have come at a worse time! We were there in the middle of so much and then that!

I 've heard the decision was made to push the agenda of some kuttarh brothers in Canada. Over Gurdwara management.....

YES they ahd LOST in VOTES..so they decided to call in the cavalry from Akal takhat..their very own Jathedar ( to them he still is de facto jathedar akal takhat)
BUT they STILL LOST..and the Gurdwara is still under the Parbhandaks who sit on chairs for langgar...BUT they did manage to creat an unnecessary STORM..a TSUNAMI maong SIKHS..polasising them into TWO sides...one of the floor..the other insisting on the chairs they paid so much of snagat goluck money for !!! ALL OUR GURDWARAS in MALAYSIA..decided to KEEP the CHAIRS..and buy a few Tapparrs for those inclined to sit on the floor...

YES..but just compare the humbleness of Bhai lalo..would Guru nanak Ji Sahib visit this jathedars home ? and share his rotis ? Would MILK come out from them as did in Bhai Lalo jis rotis ??

When you look at the Bottom LINE..it all really comes down to Congress Vs Akalis of Badal..you are either one or the other...NO ONE IS FOR SIKHI 110%. How sad for Sikhs..

A sensible approach. Far more sensible than Mr ex-Jathedars approach.

BTW isn't this fellow meant to a direct descendent of of Bhai Lalo?

Since when has descent counted for much in Sikhi apart from with those who are inclined to blindly follow lineages?

Besides, just because he shares (reputedly) the same gotra as Bhai Lalo, doesn't mean they are directly related. Where has this information come from anyway?

I think ex Jathedar Ranjit Singh suffers from what all of the people in his position do in these modern times. A lack of foresight, prudence, education and freedom.

Now, if there was a leader like Akali Phoola Singh (who actually was the equivalent of the Akal Takhat jathedar), who fearlessly confronted whoever needed it (remember the famous incident with Maharajah Ranjit Singh), we would be talking.

Remember, even though Akalis were portrayed as fanatics, Akali Phoola Singh has the prudence and foresight to put things in perspective with Maharajah Ranjit Singh and overlook discretions with an eye on the security of the wider panth. Any jathedar today needs to be able to do that. Had Akali Phoola Singh not passed away when he did, and was around for the AngloSikh wars, I'm sure the outcome may have been VERY different. Sorry for the digression.....
