    Hello Everyone,

Truly mesmerizing and nothing short of engineering excellence ... kinetic sculpting is not entirely a new art form...but it is becoming more popular... probably one of my favourites because it makes me so happy :}{}{}:

have a windy experience! (feel free to add more videos)

YouTube - Theo Jansen: The art of creating creatures

YouTube - Ukiyo-E Kinetic Sculpture by Jeffery Laudenslager

YouTube - Theo Jansen - Animaris Rhinoceros

YouTube - Jeffery Laudenslager "Mikoshi" Kinetic Sculpture

how it happens (the forces and pivot points that matter)?

YouTube - Simulation CGI of Theo Jansen 's Mechanism

    smaller solar powered kits:
YouTube - Solar Powered Kinetic Animal Sculptures.

some practical uses of kinetic sculpting-->

VAWT's (vertical axis wind turbines) are the new designs that will be replacing the traditional propeller wind turbines...they are architecturally beautiful and prevent over-spin which is dangerous in traditional propeller turbines.

VAWT’s harness multidirectional and quickly changing winds much better than traditional turbines.... propeller turbines have to turn into the wind.

YouTube - Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Helix (Lift Type) VAWT

    YouTube - Turbina Eolica

    cheers

My cousin, who is rookie pilot, taught me the pilot lingo....they call it 'crabbing' when they land like that along the runway (because of the crosswind) ... he said its tricky because you have to straighten the plane out on the runway before the nose gear touches the ashphalt...and the window to perform this is only a couple of seconds (and it gets narrower if the winds are stronger)...if not done properly you risk crashing or more commonly damaging the landing gear.

..those were EXTREME landings...i bet the people sitting in the first class windows could probably see the far side of the runway!...and the pilots were yelling YEEEHAAW! at the top of their lungs as they approached...it's seems like a tricky approach. I just thought it was awesome and it shows how beautiful of a kinetic sculpture the aeroplane can be (provided your viewing from outside and not stuck in cramped smelly cabin on the inside...with pitiful airline food and crying babies)

    aeroplanes are amazing kinetic sculptures!

So your Cousin does that, it must need special skills I doubt all pilots can handle it. The way it lands itself is amazing, I saw it repeatedly. Real good one kinetic sculptures. Thanks for posting, you made my day, believe me.

    the wally 118...*drool*

YouTube - WALLY 118 THE YACHT !!! END OF STORY

it goes down as an amazing "kinetic sculpture" in my book...the most amazing sea worthy vessel.

with those jet turbines flying you across the water you can get away from those pesky pirates ;)

it's not a circus man, it's a poor man, who will spend his life working like an animal until his hands and limbs are filed down to nothingness, at which point he will be discarded like an old rag by his employer and his family.

PK70 ji, glad you are enjoying it bro...now that you have seen slow speeds through a high speed camera, lets all have a look at some amazing high speed time lapses of nature through a slower shutter speed camera.

enjoy, this is truly breathtaking kinetic art:

    Hi everyone.

this is amazing, a must see video...a new canvas for kinetic art, hardly tapped!
YouTube - Sachiko Kodama, Yasushi Miyajima "Morpho Towers -- Two Stand

    The chemistry behind it:
It's called Ferro fluid...a fluid that gets polarized when a magnetic field is applied to it. Its basically iron dust...extremely small magnitized particles of iron...the particles themselves are coated with serfactant to reduce intra-molecular attractions such as Van der Waals forces...(it prevents clustering lowering viscosity, as the particles are suspended by Brownian motion)
the iron dust is then mixed with a polar solvent, either water or an organic solvent, heavy chain alcohols or oils.

a magnetic field is applied and voila! ...the fluid comes to LIFE!

ferrofluids have a variety of practical functions but they also make stunning kinetic art!

It is beautiful especially at the end of the tape where it takes water around it as a part of its beauty:)

some people are so creative pk70, its amazing.

yes the end was great, if you look closely, you see the waves bouncing off the end of the container and returning to the source before dampening and dieing off...

    waves are so cool :p
