AMRITSAR: Jatehdar Akal Takht (highest Sikh Temporal Seat) Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti during a high level meeting here Saturday annulled the selection of three designate priests of Golden Temple. Radical Sikh organisations had opposed these appointments.

The name of three people were Bhai Gurbax Singh, Bhai Jaspal Singh, and Bhai Mann Singh for religious post as a priest of Golden Temple was announced by the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) chief Avtar Singh Makkar a month ago.

But immediate after the announcements made by the SGPC for the appointments of new priests of the Golden Temple, severe resentments started to come from the various Sikh religious organizations which forced the Jatehdar Akal Takht Vedanti to take suo-moto notice.

During the high level meeting chaired by Vedanti, it was unanimously resolved that the designate appointments of three people as a priest of Golden Temple was null and void, since no religious ethics, norms and Sikh traditions were adhered, hence these appointments stood cancelled forthwith.

According to the highly placed SGPC sources, there is set procedure to fill the religious vacancies, First of all demand is raised by the Head priest of Golden Temple, thereafter a certain religious test is conducted, followed by the interview to be conducted by the various Sikh intellectuals, heads of all main Sikh religious organizations, after that all the qualities and life character of candidates scrutinized by the ‘Dharam Parchar’ Committee of the SGPC and atlast Jatehdar Akal Takht gives his final approval, But unfortunately none of the step was followed except the hegemony of Badal.

Today Vedanti chaired the high level meeting was attended by the Jatehdar Kesgarh Sahib Tarlochan Singh, JatehdarTalwandi Sabo Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Head Priest Golden Temple Gyani Gurbachan Singh, Additional Head Priest Golden Temple Gyani Mohan Singh and three priests to Golden Temple Gyani Jagtar Singh, Bhai Jaswant Singh and Bhai Mal Singh.

It may be mentioned here that the name of these three people for the religious post was the choice of SAD Chief and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal who had directed the SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar to announce their name. This is first time Vedanti in his tenure has dared to review the decision of SGPC Chief particularly which was done on the behest of Badal.

Gurfateh

das idsccused this thing with our Gyani Sahib.

Das thinlks that for maintaing status quo and further decay of Panth, these fake Akalis need help of reactionasries. And some sant act like that.Das anyway follows the route to stay with Sants and instead of oppsoing them try to coax them to be revoluntiaoniers or pro reform.

More then Raagmala or Dasham Granth issue,we have issues of pagan ritual still creeping in us like
1.killing female doughter in womb(and some sants still want that female can not 5 belived one or can not do serivce in Darbar Sahib so gender bias.
2.Caste based politics.
3.Deeming scripture as idol of picture of Guru as idol.
4 ritualy reading Gurbani like spells.
5.Black grams on satruday or Shradh and all non sense.

list is in exushtive and Badal and thier stooges want rule and benefit with more pomp and show like that of Nagar kirtan or gold plates, this is just like Hindus.

Fund could have been diverted to preaching.Das say aye to Bhai Internation Akali.

SGPC accepts Akal Takht decision on priests appointment

GURPREET SINGH MEHAK - PunjabNewsline Wednesday, 13 September 2006

FATEHGARH SAHIB; The Shiromani Gurdawara Parbhandak Committee has honoured the verdict of Sikh clergy, rejecting the appointment of three priests made by SGPC. It seemed that SGPC has been playing safe to avoid any outburst on the issue.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar has accepted the Sikh clergy directions, which was issued by the clergy during their meeting at Amritsar on September 9. The meeting weas presided over by Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti.

The Sikh high priests had rejected the appointment of three granthis for Golden Temple, Amritsar and had directed the SGPC to follow proper parameters as per Sikh traditions for making such appointment, without violating Sikh traditions.

Talking to this correspondent after presiding over meeting SGPC Executive at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Makkar said that the installation of three granthis for Harmander Sahib, which was earlier proposed to be held on September 12 had been postponed for indefinite period.

He said that as per the directions of the Sikh clergy all rules and regulations would be implemented in in future for appointing any Granthi in Harmander Sahib. He said that similar conditions might be imposed on present incumbent. Makkar said that he was 'thankful' to Sikh clergy, who apprised Sikh traditions to a person, who (Makkar) had served caretaker of a Gurdwara for last several years.

It may be mentioned here that the Sikh high priests and the SGPC chief are on the collision course as all three Granathis, whose installation was postponed by the Sikh high priests were reportedly hand-picked by Makkar.

Sources said that the SGPC had to postpone the installation ceremony of the granthis of Golden Temple in the wake of strong opposition from Sikh high priests and Sikh organizations. Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa and chiefs of various Nihang organizations even had threatened to stop any installation that was against Sikh traditions. Akal Takht Jathedar had also convened a meeting of Sikh clergy for September 14.
