What would other people think?

How many things do you do, and how many things do you not do, just because you're worried about what other people would think?

Other people's opinions of you, and your opinions of them, cause a great amount of completely unnecessary negative thinking. Not to mention a lot of silly activity. Of course you would like to make a good impression on people. So you do your best to be polite, honest and respectful. Beyond that it's useless to concern yourself with what others think of you, because they will probably think it in spite of anything you do. And what does it matter anyway?

Refuse to be imprisoned by the opinions of others. After all, what harm can someone's opinion do to you? What power does it have over you? Only the power that you give to it. Decide to live with the freedom of your own thoughts. Be confident of your own value and worth, and that you're doing the right thing. When you believe in yourself and in what you're doing, it won't matter what other people think. And while you're at it, remember not to waste your own time by placing judgments on others.

We're all different, thankfully. What a drab world it would be if we weren't. And we all think differently. Do what you will, with the best of intentions, a steadfastness of purpose, and let others think what they may.

Re: What would other people think ?

The human Spirit is a living energy. Healthy human interaction and intellectual stimulation is essential for the continual regeneration of this spirit. In communing and socialising the spirit merges and becomes unified as a collective whole or community of many individuals.

Peer approval is a pressure upon many impressionable and sensitive souls. It takes great leap of faith and understanding augmenting the psyche and soul to become a solar entity able to function and proper one ones own team. As Nietzsche wrote – ‘’the human souls stagnates in isolation’’. Zindagani hai ik mela, mele me jo rehe jaate akele, vo buss akele hi rehe jaate hai’’{Life is a great show, they who remain adrift in the world ocean, remain but alone.

Self realisations and individuation is a path and journey, some embark upon it with a will, others are cast upon its path by circumstance. Good standing, reputation and respectability are as assets, bankable commodities {although in this age money rather than good character begets patronage}.

Overt reliance upon the opinions formed by others can be self defeating. K nowledge of criterions, scheming ans dtrategems employed by others in the macabre play of character assassinations, ingratiation and currying favour, insincere flattery to gain affability gives a clearer picture of the true nature of the mob. Anthropology and the study of human behaviour affords an understanding of reasoning, cause and why people behave, react and respond in the manner they do.

Destiny, diplomacy and sense determine whether one becomes a slave of public opinion or a leader and master of it. The majority seek to be the latter and in the seeking become the merest form of the former. True good natured, virtuous individuals make the air fresher where they roam and ‘WaheGuru di Kirpa raheim’’{with waheguru’s grace} will always find love, peace and prosperity whereso life determines they tread. ...

Do You Worry About What Others Think of You?
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=8158
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=8158

“What you think of me is none of my business.” – Wayne Dyer

What would your life look like if you were literally unable to worry about other people’s opinions?

What a freedom that would be! You would live according to what you thought was beneficial for you and make decisions without second-guessing, over-analyzing, and shoulda-coulda-woulda-ing. You would no longer have any need for approval nor fear of disapproval.

The truth is, we don’t have any need for approval. Not truly. It is our egos that crave approval and fear disapproval. The mind loves to take things very personally and attempts to gain power through approval and disapproval games. When we separate ourselves from our ego, approval and disapproval have no value whatsoever. And nothing is taken personally.

In reality, another person’s thought or opinion about you is never personal, because it is never really about you in the first place. It’s about them. Our thoughts about anything and everything are only about ourselves. As Byron Katie points out, what I think and what I feel is my business. What you think and what you feel is your business. When I’m worried about how you feel about me, I’m in your business. And if I’m busy living in your business, how am I present for my own business?

When we let go of worrying over other people’s opinions, we are free to reflect on our own opinions of ourselves. Am I happy with myself? Did I make the right decision for me? Am I happy with how I treated you? Am I living in healthy and positive ways, for the highest good of everyone involved?

Living according to our own truth is one of the highest acts of self-love and self-care. And when you live according to your truth and stay in your own mental business, others will honor you and the truth you live, too, whether they agree with you or not.

"Patterning your life around others' opinions is nothing more than slavery."
- Lawana Blackwell

We (including me) judge others when we forget to judge ourselves honestly.
