4 Little Known Secrets of Meditation

Meditation Techniques Secret #1: The True Purpose of Meditation

Many people feel a sense of fascination when confronted with the possibility of mystic visions, psychic intuition and heightened mental functioning. While meditators often report these sorts of improvements, these experiences should not be the primary reason for practice. The purpose of meditation is to bring us back to ourselves.

As we become healthier, happier and realize greater self-awareness, the other benefits of meditation begin to follow naturally -- improved mental functioning, greater intuition as well as greater access to unconscious resources and abilities.

Meditation Techniques Secret #2: Distraction Does Not Equal Failure

Meditation is not work in the sense that you have to 'force' yourself to concentrate completely for long periods of time. If we consciously try to prevent thinking, it's going to have a negative impact on the meditation.

Instead, whenever we become lost in thought or confusion, we simply acknowledge those thoughts and then gently return the attention to the object of the meditation. We do this as many times as distraction or thought occurs. Eventually, the mind becomes calmer and discursive thought begins to slow.

Meditation Techniques Secret #3: Insight Alone Is Not Enough

Insight alone will not transform our lives. Meditation is likely to help us by giving us larger perspectives and increasing clarity of thought. But although our sense of inner guidance might become stronger, unless we ACT on that guidance, we will never manifest the changes we truly want in our lives.

This doesn't just mean we need to take action in our outer world, for example, having an honest conversation with a friend or paying a bill.

It also means we must actively request the assistance of the unconscious in a clear and persistent way. When you do that, as I teach in 'Secrets of Meditation, Energy and Manifestation,' you find yourself magnetically drawn toward your dreams with an irresistible impulse.

Meditation Techniques Secret #4: Learn To Let Go

Once you have made your request, it's important that you let go. Don’t be concerned with HOW you're going to get what you truly want in your life. Needing to know how can hamper the process of making it manifest in the outer world. Learn to trust your unconscious.

Some changes -- perhaps all of them -- will happen automatically. I have personally found that many of my destructive habits simply dropped away with minimal conscious effort.

For me, this was achieved not by self-discipline and will power, but rather a “letting go” and a realization that spiritual growth is a natural process powered by parts of ourselves that know more than we can understand consciously.

As we let go consciously and receive more input from these parts, we learn to trust this feeling, this feeling that we are in safe hands and that something amazing is about to happen.

Harbajhan ji,

Thank you so much for this one. Every little wonderous experience of meditation that is shared helps me understand how the path must feel along the way.

Thanks again.

The state of awareness is like a deep sleep. Just like baby in a deep state, were everything and nothing no longer matters. Only deeper. Reaching that state is where the mind, body and soul rests. The greatest peace, and just like a baby when you awake from it you cry.

Hi Parma ji,

I just noticed this and it is 2300 hours over here in the states. Maybe tomorrow we can get a discussion going. People have been kind of quiet today. Spring fever.

Parma ji,

Coming back to this discussion. How is the kind of trance state you describe in meditation different from a hypnotic trance? Several years back I went to a therapist for pain-management and chose hyponsis because I didn't want to take strong drugs with dangerous side-effects. Hypnosis is not the kind of thing you see in a bad movie. You do not lose control. Quite the opposite.

First of all it takes two or three weeks to LEARN how to go into a trance and take control of it yourself. About two or three weeks of learning relaxation techniques. When you are finally able to experience a deep trance the result is very similar to what you have described. You are aware of everything around you but can choose to ignore all of it - a dog barking, the phone ringing, the mailman at the door-- it all is so, so far away. You no longer feel the sense of your own body. You no longer feel you are planted on the ground. That sense of an outline all around you isn't there any more. You want to stay focused on an image in your mind of something that is very beautiful and peaceful. But, at any time you can come out of the trance-- and you are taught how to do that without doing it too quickly. Coming out of trance too quickly can set you back.

I asked a yoga instructor once how yogic meditation was different from a hypnotic trance, and she wouldn't answer my question. So the questions persist for me. I learned how to go into a hypnotic trance by myself, and still do this for pain reduction and relaxation.

There is nothing about magic or spirits or astral bodies flying around you in any of this. It is deep relaxation and you are in control. It has been shown by brain research that certain brain waves change their rhythm in both hypnotic trance states and deep meditation by buddhist monks as well as Catholic nuns. Actual controlled laboratory studies.

I ask however because there has to be more to a meditative state than this kind of trance I have just described. Are you thinking that the imagery goes to a deeper connection with God? I don't know enough about meditation to be able to say.

Thanks for starting me thinking again about this.

Bro I dont know im just decribing my state of mind in my peace of mind. Or should i say when I realy felt aware of who I was. A soul. Only god could answer that one for you buddi. I dont know if you've met god only god could answer that one. That would be between you and god bro. Just descibing how I felt peace. No one has got a one way ticket to god the gurbarni says it comes from being pure. To me god exsists everywhere. In my state of peace and out of my state of peace. You cant limit god to just thought to me that would be thoughtless.

Wahegur Ji Ka Khasla Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh:

Parma ji,
the state you (may have entered) describe is called Sunn. "Sunn Samad Sacha Ghar Bara"
this is a state when your Mann is free from all thoughts and is above "TREGUN Maya" , Bavsagr, Sansar Sagar, Bikham Nadia, it is our true home.
your soul when in this world of maya and sukam maya; what we see and what we don't seelike our thought and relationships etc, take toughts do perform actions and won't stop talking. this creates a Gravity of Vichars that pulls us down and keeps us from entering this 4 Chota Pad, (Nij Ghar, Siege Gufa, begam pura).
by doing simran we cut down our Vichars; Sasgras, and SasSas are the Method the Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji telles us to do " Nit Japie Sas Giras Nao Parvadigar Da" and "Vichar Mare Tare Taarre Ult Joon Nah Aih" kill you thoughts and you will not have to be reincarnated.

IF in fact that you entered this state is a big step. most people don't know what Seige is and are unaware or asleep when they go there. your Mann May have been awake when you got there.
This body is Refered to as Harmandir in the Gurbani Guru as "Harmandir Eho Sharir he Gian Rattan Pargat hoi" and in this body was created by conjoining air water and fire and fashioned with 9 doors and a 10th GATE.
the nine doors are eyes, nose, ears and waste release organs. our attention is mostly outside in Tregun (3 quality) world below Chote Padd(4 State) and our mann is alway goin in and out these 9 doors. by doing simran we take our focus away from them and listen to Waheguru gurmantr and enter this State of sun. from there we just have to sit and wait for God to awaken us. our Mann is alseep here and there so we cannot see anything eventually you will awaken ther eby Satgurs grace.

You should visit Prabh Milne Ka Chao website or Simran.info i have found this two site very helpful in my journey. it is very very very important to understand the Akath Katha because without understanding your body , what the world you live in and where you must go and the forces at work, how you must live in this world; you cannot play this game nor win it.

Adeep646 ji,

You seem to be hypothesizing Parma’s state of mind.

His experience

The state of awareness is like a deep sleep. Just like baby in a deep state, were everything and nothing no longer matters. Only deeper. Reaching that state is where the mind, body and soul rests. The greatest peace, and just like a baby when you awake from it you cry.

I am just describing my state of mind in my peace of mind

He appears to be describing a deep sleep experience. The question is Was he awake and aware? What was he doing there in that state? How does he reach this state of mind? What happens on the way of his journey? What happens there where he reaches?
I do not wish to put ideas in his mind and would ask him to explain in his own words.

Most of these phenomena’s are a state of mind. It could only mean advancing to another layer or so.

You should visit Prabh Milne Ka Chao website or Simran.info

The techniques described here are fruitless. They only broaden your expectations.

It is my opinion that one is unlikely to excel in spirituality unless

“Ja tao prem khelan ka chao, sir dhar talli galli mori aao”

and

“Pehlaan maran kabool, jivan di shadd aas, hun sabna ki renka tabhi aao hamere paas”

statements by Guru’s are also complied with. The Vikhyaan in your link encourages one to look forward to some experiences. When your expectation will not be fulfilled you will be disappointed. Everyones level of spirituality is at a different level and will have different experiences. Do Simran without expectations of any bounty be it materialistic or spiritual.

It is indeed important to understand ones body but not as a projection.

Adeep646 – What is your deep spiritual analysis of Saas Giraas?

My apologies for the interruptions.

Waheguru,
Sad Sangat Ji .

Love is very important with out love you cannot get anywhere. You have to have desire to meet Waheguru. but this desire can only be put there by Waheguru himself.
if you love someone you will fight day and night without stopping to get there.
The alternative is fear. fear of how the Jamms will take you and you will be doomed to reincarnate over and over again without NAM.

If you keep something desire of a state or happiness in mind you cannot achive anything. "Jab Lag Hoi Baekunt Ki As Tab Lag Nahi Charan KAmal Niwas" as long as you long for heaven you can not meditate on the Lord.

Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is our guru and it is a guide on how to live in this world and how to get home. it also describes within this body the Antargath. "AntarGath Teerath Mal Nai" The Gurbani Guru is educating you on what is within.

(i don;t think you listen or watched the entirety of the selection. you must listen to about 20hrs minimum to undertstand. EkMusafir you should do simran and figure out where this doubt comes from and from where you get these toughts. "Is Dehi me Panch Chor Vase Nit Kare Buriaia"

The websites are very helpful. these are the Only websites that have the Akath Katha. no one else in india or the whole world has this knowledge. this is given by Waheguru only. The techniques you call FRUITLESS are on EVERY page in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. without doing Sasgras Simran you cannot understand the Gurbani. "Tregun Pare Har Tat Na Jane" because most read the GuruJi like a text book and the Guru Ji is Saying you cannot understand this in Tregun.
"Bani Virlo Vichar Si Je Koi Gurmukh Hoi, Eh BAni Mahapurkh Ki NIJ GHAR vasa Hoi" only very very few can understand the Bani and only if he is a Gurmukh ( One who has Killed his Ego and Mann), This Bani belongs to the Holyman and it is your guide for you to reach your True Home "Nij Ghar"

The Body is made of Maya. i don't understand what you mean by projection. this body is a made out of 5 TATs (elements) and our Mann has been placed within to play this game. "Tin Karte ek Kel Rachaia" "Divas Rat Dui Daiee Daya Kele SaGal Jagat" . and we have been given the Life engery called SWAS (breathe) and with every breath we buy something.

"4 Padarth Le Jag Jamia SHiv Shakti Ghar vas Dare || Lagi Bhook Maya Mad Johe Mukt Padarth Mohi Kare" meaning you are given 4 Padarths and put in body of maya and Brahm, your hunger (attachment) to Maya began and you unable to get the 4th Padarth.
the Padarths are where you spend your breath. and they are created from Air Water And Fire by Waheguru. Air Quality (Rajo Gun) We have to work( to feed ourselves and family), Fire Quality (Tamo Gun) have to have procreate ( in a family ) and Water Quality (Sato Gun) do good "deeds" these are 3 padaraths. "Ape Pati Kalam Ape Likh Bhi Tu || Eko Kahie Nanka, Duje Kahe Koo" every breath you take is written where you spendth it.

the 4th Padarth is Moksh Hut. (NAM). to get here you have to leave tregun. all toughts are about one of the three ( and Krod, Lobh, Moh Hankar.)

The Gurbani Guru now tells us how to get to the 4th Padarth where there is NAM. Guru Ji explains" Pawn Pani Agni Bisrao Te Niranjan Sacha Nao" you have get to 4 Pad and do do this you must leave Air Water And Fire. Where this ends so do our toughts. and Guru states that Nam is within us "Nau Nid Amrit Prabh Ka Nam Dehi Me Is Ka Bisram"

Sas Gras Simran is the basis for laying a foundation. you have clean the "Ket" Farm before you can grow anything. if you don't your weeds will grow with your crop and you won't have any harvest. After Cleasing it fully then you will grow something, then your jorney will begin.

Adeep646 ji,

Thank you very much for your response although it is not what I expected. We shall all develop at different rates and it will happen when the time is right.

“Samein se pehle aur takdeer se bahar kuj nahi milta”

You have to have desire to meet Waheguru.

If you keep something desire of a state or happiness in mind you cannot achive anything. "Jab Lag Hoi Baekunt Ki As Tab Lag Nahi Charan KAmal Niwas" as long as you long for heaven you can not meditate on the Lord.

Conflict of statements ! ! ! or confusion within?

It is the desire that needs to be killed. Even the desire to meet God is a Desire. It is the unfulfilled desire that brings us back over and over again.

Anyway many thanks for your response, we are at very different wavelengths.

what i meant is if you desire to reach a "State" (of higher consiousness or awkening )you cannot meditite. this itself is a thought. you must be free of thoughts and desires. DAS means slave ; a slave has been given an order and he must obey without tought. this slave has no right to have any Vichar is he has given his Dhan Mann And Swasa Di Dhan to his true Guru and the Guru will take care of him. The Guru is telling us to do Simran and Jap Waheguru Gurmantr .

Desire is part of it, the Mann has to be killed, really. the Guru Ji says "Mann Ki Matt Tiago Harjan Ehi Bat Kateni' and this is the most difficult thing to do.

“Samein se pehle aur takdeer se bahar kuj nahi milta” what is this from the Gurbani or from your Mann?

The word daas is used 548 times in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Each time in the Shabd, either Guru Nanaak dev ji himself is asking to be "the slave" and sometimes the "slave of the slave", or another Guru, for example Guru Arjan dev ji, or Baghat, is speaking with voice of Nanaak ji, and asking to be the slave. What is their message? Think about this.

Bhai Gurdas says the tree that bears fruit bows to the ground. Think about this.

Why does VijayDeep then refer to himself as das?

You are preaching to the converted. We are no one to say we meditate. To say that is manmat. It is he himself who dwells in us meditates himself. It is the illusion of Maya that makes us believe otherwise. We are only recievers of the Hukam and not Transmitters. Never think we are capable of anything just submit yourself in totality. Become nobody and enjoy the journey.

The above is a saying that translates as : For any fruitation to take place, there is a specific time and you only get what is pre-written in your fate.

Appologies for the confusion.

Sorry aad ji. I know this question was not directed at me but neverthyless i am putting forward some thoughts and await comments from adeep646 ji.

Daas is an expression of humbleness. Dassan Das is referring to humblest of the humble. (also has been referred to as “dust of the feet” in Bani)

The word Das is also referred to someone who is lowly in stature, a slave, a servant and also for an enemy. But I feel Guru ji is using “Das” to expressing humbleness.

When Guru ji uses the word Das, he means it and that reflects in his words of the Shabad. When you recite the said Shabad you will experience the humbleness.

People that tend to use these words are living in the pretence that by referring themselves as Daas or Dassan Das, the qualities of “The Humble” will get engraved in them.

This is also akin to people that start the conversation with humbleness and then smother the other with verbal diarrhoea in their comments and then they ask humbly for forgiveness at the end.

There is a saying “Paapi doona nivey.”. The guilty conscious bows repeatedly.

The qualities of the “Das” should reflect in their actions and deeds and not their words.( to avoid confusion – in their written content and not by calling oneself Das)

Guru ji say “ Changa nao rehai ke jass kirat jag le, je tis naddar na avaee ta vaat na pushey ke”. The pretenders will be ignored.

Bhai Gurdas says the tree that bears fruit bows to the ground.

The example has been taken from nature by Bhai Gurdas ji. The fruit that is sweet (ripe) will always be noted to bow towards the ground. This is akin to the true Das (The Gurmukh = Who speaks the Gurus word, conveys the Gurus thoughts) who has attained a higher state of consciousness or awakening andhas become a humble devotee of the Guru.

We are living through a period of Kalyug and one can expect impostors whose job is to mislead and misrepresent. Righteousness has indeed flown away.

No offence intended to anyone.

No need to be sorry. No offense taken. Everything you say sits well with me. Everything is context. And yes my words were not directed at you.

Sherab ji -- don't get nervous -- these kinds of back and forth occur periodically. Veer Ekmusafir and I are responding to one another instead of blowing each other off. No anger whatsoever in the exchange between us.

Waheguru ji,

my words have been misunderstood.
this comes with where our Mann is sitting. it has been a habited to sit on Tamo GUn and take negative vichars. so i do not take any offense to the above comments. Waheguru is within all of us. He Himself is everything.
please lets listen to what "Nichor" is; Guru ji says:

"Tajio Sianap Sirjanoo Simro HarHar Rai , Ek As MAn Chit Rakho Nanak Dukh Dard Baram Bou Jai"

i sincerely apologize for any misquote of the Gurbani.
