| | | | | Re: Sikh Names I dont see anything wrong with name Kevinjit. What is so funny or upsetting or worth annoying abt this name??? At least the guy seeks to maintain sikh identity.. isnt it? Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=4106
Look at those, who have deliberately taken 'Singh' off from their names!!! |

Umm just a question on the side... Is it still too late to change my name?
I kno that one is too receive their name when they are born, and i kno that i wimpped out the first time, but it is something that i really want to do. Is it still OK do recieve a hukamnaama and then change it???

| | | | | Re: Sikh Names I would like to add that words 'Kaur' and 'Singh' act as an indicator of being part of Khalsa. Otherwise there got to be no objection to any other name. I see no point in why the first name has to be something like Balwinder, Kulwinder and likes only. Shannon Kaur or John Singh... Part of the names imply their belonging. Personally, I would like to go for any name, which keeps me reminding of what I belong to. |

i understand when people have names like shannon and john because of there backround etc. But we don't want to go to far because some of the names have meanings. And those meanings might be something different from the sikh religion. for ex: Christain Singh. having a first name christain from christinaty and singh from sikhism doesn't sound right. Before you chose any name you should what the meanings are. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=4106
