| | | | | Dishonoring Hair: Does One Mistake Make Me a Sinner Forever? WJKK WGJKF,
My question is above. I did this when i was 13 years old, but not to make it look better, only because it itched very much. Are there any consequences for me, that Ive did that big sin. My parents werenīt much orthodox that they can enlight me, about it and it was very embarrassing for me to ask them about. I did it only 1 time and I never will do it again, is it really bad am I still a sikh? I hate myself for it, and Iīve realized that it was bad. It is a serious question, so please donīt laugh at me..... Sorry my english isnīt very well but i hope you understand it.

Thank you for fielding this issue during the time when I was offline, giving two good references to help Tiger ji develop some background for the question asked. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=35029
Tiger ji As admin my reactions to your question will be understandably conflicted. I am "old school" - meaning that I can be inflexible without guilt, when the situation calls for it in my opinion.
1. On the one hand I cannot tell if you have asked this to be sensational and are trying to wind up forum members.
2. On the other hand, I remember when this question came up before. A Muslim woman began to keep kesh because she wanted to convert to Sikhi. However, she feared what would happen if her husband would discover that she was honoring her hair in that intimate place. The thread was immediately removed because the subject of pubic hair rages on another forum, TOPIX, as the ONE MOST POPULAR SUBJECT about Sikhi, where Muslims wind up Sikhs.
So you can see I shall be keeping a close eye on this thread too. The title has already been changed.
There is one aspect of your problem that does need to be answered straight up so you do not waste time wondering about it. The concept of "sin" is not part of Sikhi. Sin: an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law : a sin in the eyes of God | the human capacity for sin.Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=35029
Sin is a concept that works in the Muslim, Judaic, and Christian traditions, where there is a duality or separation between God and human, and where God is watching. Therefore God can be "sinned against." This does not translate well into the dharmic traditions.
God is not watching.
In Sikhi we have always the responsibility to own up to our own moral weaknesses. And we always can, with the grace of Akaal Purakh, rise above those moral weaknesses and failings. In dishonoring hair, you have not sinned, but are considered bipaar kurehit. You have acted wrongly outside of the rules of the Sikh Rehat Maryada. If you are a baptized or amritdhari Sikh, this needs to be confessed to the Panj Piaare of sangat, who give a punishment.
So what about you? I take it you are not amritdhari. Therefore, your next steps, if you chose to follow through, is to admit you have cheapened the gift of kesh, stop doing it, and move on. Guilt only keeps you trapped in your past and gets in the way of moving forward. | | The following members appreciate spnadmin Ji for the above message. | |

Thanks for your gracious response to me. Hope you understand why I had to be hard at first. I simply had to be sure we would not head down the wrong road on a question about kesh. And if I have upset you please forgive me. The answer is there is nothing stopping you from becoming armitdhari. Isn't that an awesome and challenging possibility?

| | | | | Re: Dishonoring Hair: Does One Mistake Make Me a Sinner Forever? TigerStyleZ ji I am once again getting the feeling we are moving in the direction of the TOPIX forum, according to Hypothesis 2, from one of my earlier posts. I am going to delete your comment above and rephrase it. Thanks.
Rewording of TigerStyleZ ji's problem Quote: |
TigerStyleZ ji has described the following problem. He would like to become a baptized/amritdhari Sikh. however there are some difficulties. 1) He does not live in a place where there are very many Sikhs. 2) The Sikhs he has come into contact with are fake in his opinion because they talk about people behind their backs. 3) His friends are mostly Christians and Muslims. They are the ones who have helped him when he has been in trouble. 4) The problem is that they are obsessed with sex and watch pornography. 6) These have been his best friends since he was 5 years old. 7) He does not want to give them up; and he does not want to be friends with false Sikhs.
