NEW DELHI: The Youth Congress has disowned an expatriate Indian in Britain who has been making statements to the media by claiming to be the chief of its UK unit.
Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal, who recently came into prominence because of his statements to the media on issues concerning the Sikh community in Britain and Indo-British relations, went about introducing himself as the president of the Overseas Youth Congress.
He was in news of late with his comments to the media about the expatriate Sikh community's `integration' into the British army. He talked about organising a blood donation camp for the British troops in Afghanistan.
When contacted, YC chief Rajiv Satav said that his organisation had no overseas units.
"Since the YC does not have any units abroad there is no question of Dhaliwal heading one of them," Satav said. He said Dhaliwal had never been in touch with the organisation.
When media reports came to the notice of the YC office-bearers about Dhaliwal talking to the media on behalf of the organisation, they immediately contacted a close Rahul Gandhi aide. Rahul as Congress general secretary looks after the youth wing.

"It has come to the notice of Indian Youth Congress that Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal is introducing himself and impersonating as president of the Indian Overseas Youth Congress, UK," the organisation said in a statement.
It clarified that no such person had been appointed as the chief of such an outfit nor did such a body exist.
