Bhajji pulled up for Ravana act

Spin ace Harbhajan Singh has run into trouble with the Sikh clergy again, this time over a dance-based reality TV show in which he appeared dressed like Ravana and wore vermilion on his forehead (tilak).

Taking strong exception to Harbhajan's act on Ek Khiladi, Ek Haseena, a show broadcast by Colors, acting Akal Takht (Sikhism's highest temporal authority) jathedar Gurbachan Singh has asked the cricketer to tender an unconditional apology to the community.

“By presenting himself as Ravana and applying tilak, Harbhajan Singh has violated Sikh religious tenets, besides hurting the sentiments of the community. His make-up… was disgusting,” the jathedar, Sikh high priest, said.

Harbhajan was paired opposite to television star Mona Singh, who played Sita.
On an earlier occasion, the cricketer had to apologise to the community after Sikh religious organisations objected to the offie appearing in an advertisement for a liquor firm with his hair undone.

Sikh men are required to keep their hair tied in a turban all the time. The religion also prohibits liquor.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has been seeking permanent representation on the Censor Board to avoid “misrepresentation of Sikhs”. ***

Why is it that Sikh Jathedars r craving for media headlines & coverage ?
1. Did any of the Hindu organisations objected to it in the first place ?
2 .Why is Harbhajan Singh made the scapegoat again & again ? Last time also he was pulled up by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar on his saloon issue with full media glare ?
3. Can we imagine something similar being done to Yuvraj Singh or Abhinav Bindra both clean shaven , who r eagerly ADOPTED by same religious authorities . Why this bias towards Harbhajan Singh who keeps hair & wears a Patka ( though cuts his beard )
4 . Harbhajan Singh has a very good chance of getting higher sponserships & freedom from unnecessary hassles from SIKH CLERGY if he gets himself cleanshaven . Are our Jathedars not pushing him towards that end ?
5 . What message the Jathedars r trying to give to young Sikh players who r anyhow already extremely low on self-confidence regarding their Sikh appearance ?

Dalbirk ji

It may be all about a desperate attempt to capture the mind of the media as the "only" legitimate representatives of Sikh identity. So they go after the one who captures the most media coverage, or the most intense media coverage, just so everyone knows. Maybe the other athletes/celebrities keep their heads down below the radar screen more than Harbhajan, so he cannot escape their notice. Sooner or later it will be someone else. But really, they are a grumpy lot.

Re: Bhajji pulled up for Ravana act (Hindustan Times)

On one side, they blame the youth for not keeping hair, and other side, if some one plays a kind of act, they go after that person. Badal and others perform open pooja of Hindu entities( Ref. Spoksman Pictures), where were these " thekedaar of Sikhism" then?

Harbhajan already trims the beard so he does not comes under the preview of Akal Takhat already.

God knows what sort of person control Akal Takhat Sahib, who jumps into useless debates.

In past there was a case between Muslims and Daler Mehdi on the issue of Nabi Buba.Daler sorted this out with the Muslims themselves.
