| | | | | Did British Got Some Parts Deleted From Guru Granth? It does not seem probable that Gurus were not aware of Christ. Some argue DG is British invention. If they can add it means they could also delete. Why they would not do it as they wanted to establish christianity in India. Any opinion? *

| | | | | Re: Did British Got Some Parts Deleted From Guru Granth? I think they wanted to bring the Sikh nation to their knees because they were afraid and realized they would never truly be victorious unless they could promote scriptural texts that compromised the clarity and simplicity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib by making Sikhs, and their leaders, look like hypocrites and fools. Dr. Baldev Singh has even written that their agenda in part was to make Sikh men seem so morally misguided that they could effectively castrate them, diminish their manhood and sense of dignity, which came accompanied with pride and fierce loyalty to a principled philosophy rather than enslavement to old gods and ideas. They were just picking up where the Moghuls left off. Think about how that would work. | | The following members appreciate Narayanjot Kaur Ji for the above message. | |

Any opinion? | I don't think Britishers want to establish Christianity in India. They could had easily converted millions of untouchables , tribals and some backward classes
from Hinduism yet nothing like that happened.Missionary work was done on very small scale.Today christains in India are only 25-30 million which could have been easily over 100 millions if they could had tried | | The following members appreciate kds1980 Ji for the above message.

The British didnt get the chance as far as Punjab was concerned...Punjab dropped LAST into their LAP...almost IMMEDIATELY began to agitate for INDEPENDENCE.....and in a short period of 100 years was INDEPENDENT !!..The SINGH SABHA LEHR..the NAMDHAREE LEHR..Ghadar Lehr.Gurdwara Sudhaar Lehr...SGPC..Akali Dal..etc etc...Punjab was in constant turmoil..for the Christian Missionaries to do much Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=29975Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=29975
Where the British got a longer lease..kerala, tamilnadu, bengal etc...they did convert quite a lot..Goa for example..has alarge christian population..so has Kerala.
Anyway Kanwardeep ji is correct..the British East India company was not in India for christianity..it was for BUSINESS of Making MONEY.....the Missionaries were on their own..not Govt sponsered...
IF the Christians were like the MUGHALS..there would be churches all over...they woudl have demolished mosques/mandirs etc and made them into churches..its just not their style...they work in more subtle ways..he he he..and they are MORE FAIR..they give to all religions..just as they do in the WEST NOW. | | The following members appreciate Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji for the above message.

| Goa was never under British rule .It was under portugese and they were hardcore christians that's why they converted a lot of people into christianity.
Kerala I think has christianity from very long time much before than britishers came to India.
Tamil nadu, bengal do not have have large population of Christians. In both of these states there population do not exceed 5%.It clearly shows that unlike portugese Britishers were least interested in conversions O/W today we could have seen large number of christians in
Bengal.tamil nadu | | The following members appreciate kds1980 Ji for the above message.

What these two did in the South Americas is well known..they exterminated the Indians and converted whoever lived... I beleive it was the Pope that DIVIDEd the WORLD among these two nations ( as if HE owned it ???)
I beleive MOST of the Christians in india are converts due to Finacial reasons..poverty etc and from the Lower castes to escape the caste. | | The following member appreciates Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji for the above message.

The interesting part is that the Gospel by St. Thomas was not included in the New Testament.

| | | | | Re: Did British Got Some Parts Deleted From Guru Granth? The Christian missionaries especially the catholic, did have a vested interest in converting a large deprived population of India. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=29975
But lets not forget that in the process they worked with dedication and selflessly to bring in modern education and health care in India. A large majority of Indias intellectuals are products of Missionary schools and colleges. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=29975
Even in missionary schools serving well to do areas, there would be once a week class in "moral studies" where the message of Christ would be propagated to impressionable minds and in very subtle and indirect manner the "backwardness" of other religions would be shown. |
