ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੧॥

If a person Loves the Lord like a married woman loves her husband one should offer mind and body to Him. Thus the Lord dwells in the mind of such person and all the activities and actions of such a person are oriented to toward a single objective i.e the attainment and merger with the Lord. Having given the mind and body to the ord one automatically becomes a Guru-oriented person and follows all that us stated in Gurmat. Such a person is a real Gurmukh as per the definition in Sikhism. Such a Lucky/fortunate person acts like a devotee and his mind becomes stable, the mind gets subdued and its wandering comes to rest. In this state of spirituality one attains the ‘sat’ with intuitive ease and becomes worthy of honor. In this stanza the emphasis placed on becoming a Gurmukh and doing the deeds as per Gurmat.

[Author: The expression ‘sabad Milava hove’ is not stated here but it has apeeared in Bani .It is clear from the above that by following the teachings as contained in the shabads of sabad-Guru one can attain merger with the Lord. However, there are many implicit conditions contained that enable one to seek merger i.e. one should not of an iota of ‘haumein’ and one should have such a pre-ordained destiny that one gets the Glance of His grace for seeking this merger. These concepts have already been introduced and stated in bani in the earlier shabads.

The following are the relevant ‘tuks’ that impress upon this point. These are self-explanatory and no translation is given here.

Oh Dear seeker, Understand this that without seeking the sanctuary of Guru one cannot serve the lord. It is after seeking the blessings of guru and by contemplating His teachings that one gets to know His essence that one can understand what is devotion and what is the meaning of ‘service of Lord’. The devotion can, thus, be obtained with the Blessings of guru, howsoever, strongly one may wish as the spiritual wisdom is obtained from the Guru that is the most essential ingredients for serving Him.[Author: There is no devotion without spiritual wisdom. One gets enough evidence that It is through the Guru that one gets access to the spiritual wisdom. kuMBy bDw jlu rhY jl ibnu kuMBu n hoie ] igAwn kw bDw mnu rhY gur ibnu igAwnu n hoie ]It is the Guru who provides one with spiritual wisdom .igAwn AMjnu guir dIAw AigAwn AMDyr ibnwsu ] hir ikrpw qy sMq ByitAw nwnk min prgwsu ]

One who is lost in Duality always remain in the cycle of birth and death and without the Guru one remains in the state of anxiety as the real purpose of life does not become clear to those who remain in ‘Duvidha’ on account of this duality that is directly/indirectly be attributed to Maya, that is also a creation of the Lord. He has created it for His play as He enjoys the play. Thus it is through the Guru-shabad that one understands the purpose of life and one starts working accordingly for attaining virtues and shedding the vices. It is not feasible to find the Lord without the spiritual wisdom as contained in the Shabads. Those who do not contemplate this wisdom, waste this precious human life.

Continuing with the thoughts contained in the above stanza Guru sahib explains the state of the being who is lost in duality. Such a person who does not follow guru and is lost in maya is the one who develops the disease of ‘haumein’, selfishness in this material world they spend the entire life in wandering around for the sake of gathering more wealth. Even this wealth that they accumulate does not go with them at the end. Such is the state of a spiritually blind persons. They are deprived of even thinking of Naam i.e. the Love for the Lord and the Almighty who have provided us with everything. One does remember Him to whom this mind and body and even the soul belongs. It is only after the meting of satguru that one gets blessed with wealth of naam and such a being always keep the naam in his mind and feels blessed.

It is only through the Guru [Guru Teachings etc,.] that one remains imbued in Naam and they attain the blissful state of stable mind with intuitive ease. Their minds and bodies are dyed in the Color of the Lord's Love, and their tongues savor His Sublime Essence. Says Nanak:’ that Color which the Lord has applied at the very beginning does not fade away. [ Author: In this Line the state of the one who is blessed with such a pre-ordained destiny is narrated. One shall have to link the last line of shabad with either the succeeding shabad or co-relate it with the preceding shabad.] ||4|

Note: Author is a novice in bani and is in the process of learning and sharing. Author has not made efforts to draw the meanings from the lines only but have given the meaning as per the understanding of the ‘shabad’ in totality and have punctuated with his own thoughts to make the writing coherent. While doing so there may be some additions to the exact line of shabads and to some this may not seem pleasing. If that is the case, please forgive the one who is trying to learn bani and is sharing with the sangat for their valuable comments.
