The National Trust is hosting the ‘Rejoice!’ concert at its Back to Back Houses attraction, to bring diverse inspirational music together in historic surroundings.

It is part of the Trust’s Whose Story? project which is an initiative to highlight the cultural diversity of stories and heritage at National Trust properties in the West Midlands.

The event is historically inspired by the Birmingham Court and Alley Concerts Association, which began in 1898 when musicians played free concerts to encourage, inspire and entertain thousands of people who lived in these courtyards.

Award winning acts performing include Black Voices, Fola Irish group and the Sikh Nari Manch Choir, is lead by Bibi Gurdev Kaur who recently was awarded and OBE in the Queens birthday annual awards.

Joyce Wallace, Outreach Officer for the Whose Story? project, said: “Rejoice! is going to be a special and inspirational concert highlighting professional groups and community choirs from various faith and entertainment backgrounds.

“You are certain to be left joyous and uplifted.”

Rejoice! takes place on Saturday 8 August 2009. Tickets cost: £10 Adults, £5 Children (six to 16 years) and light refreshments are included in the price.

The performance runs from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
