Pray Truth for all and say Satsriakaal!
Dear all!

Gurdev is singing Truth also in this wonderful Vaak.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
नाराइण कहते नरकि न जाहि ॥
Naaraa-in kahate naraki na jaahi. SGGS Ang 868-1
Chanting Naaraa-in, one does not go into hell.

May I ask if someone has found a true Sikh singing Naaraa-in? Please mention him or her and oblige.

Dear all!

The reverend Gurus sing often Naaraa-in and the praise of Naaraa-in.

Strange, most of your Baabaas and preachers have turned away their face from the true Guru and are not singing Naaraa-in.
Some may want to hear, what they are singing?

Dear all and Namjap Jee!

Thanks for the links.

In the referred Hymn Gurdev is singing further. Please listen.
ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਰਾਇਣ ॥
नाराइण साधसंगि नराइण ॥
Naaraa-in saadhsangi naraa-in.
Naaraa-in is in the company of the Saadh Naraa-in.

ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਗਾਇਣ ॥
बारं बार नराइण गाइण ॥
Baarambaar naraa-in gaa-in.
Repeatedly sing Naraa-in.

Actually I wanted to know if someone has found a true Sikh singing Baarambaar (repeatedly) Naaraa-in.

Apologies.

ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
naaraaein kehathae narak n jaahi ||
Chanting the Lord's Name, one does not fall into hell.

Naturally the confusion mounts on the thread when searching for a translation that is more plausibly linked to the shabad and transliterations confuse us. At some point Veer Ekmusafir will add his expertise to this discussion. Until then ... the translation given for "chanting naaraa-in (alternate transliteration narayan) one does not go to hell" is off base. "

Naaraaein not naaraa - in

Dear all and Amarsanghera Jee!

Quote "what is Naraa-in?"

Guru Arjan Dev Jee is clearing it singing. Please ponder.

Depending on context, naraaein means of The Lord, of The Lord's Name, of The Infinite Lord.

example: charan kamal saranaae naraaein || I seek the Sanctuary of the Lotus Feet of the Lord.
exampe:
maerae man har bhaj naam naraaein || O my mind, vibrate and meditate on the Lord and the Name of the Lord.

(Sahib Singh Sant Singh, MD translations)
There is no Naraa-in -- it is not. The root 'nar" is from the Sanskrit "the Omnipotent One." Nara, that which animates every thing, the spirit of God. (Wilson's Sanskrit Dictionary) The word "nar" also is found in Persian of the Gurus' time having the same meaning.

Re: Are Sikhs able to avoid Narak?

ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਕਹਤੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
नाराइण कहते नरकि न जाहि ॥
Naaraa-in kahate naraki na jaahi. SGGS Ang 868-1

ਨਾਰਾਇਣ = One that dwells in all beings (Parmatma, God, Waheguru)

Reciting the one that dwells in all beings( Waheguru, Ram etc), one does not enter into hell / fall into hell.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਨਰਾਇਣ ॥
नामु निरंजनु नीरि नराइण ॥
Naamu Niranjanu neeri naraa-iRn.

ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ = to keep away from the effects of Maya , to dispell the effects of Maya

ਨੀਰਿ = water but here it used for and activity, means to irrigate, to immerse, to be totally absorbed , to be imbued. Like water in the field gets imbued/saturated into the ground

Naam is such that it dispells the effects of Maya when it is recited fully imbued.

ਰਸਨਾ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਲਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
रसना सिमरत पाप बिलाइण ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Rasnaa simrat paap bilaa-iRn. ||1|| rahā*o. SGGS Ang 867

ਰਸਨਾ = wth the tounge, vocally
ਸਿਮਰਤ = to recite

ਪਾਪ = evil deeds
ਬਿਲਾਇਣ = gets washed away

By reciting it with your tongue, it washes away all your evil deeds.
