Sikh attacked
By Maddy Biddulph
Rattandeep Singh Ahluwalia
A Sikh man was verbally abused by two racist thugs and had his turban torn off while up to 40 onlookers stood by and did nothing.
The attack on Rattandeep Singh Ahluwalia in Oxford city centre comes a day after 19-year-old student Tom Grant was stabbed to death on a train after going to somone's aid.
Mr Ahluwalia was waiting at a bus stop outside HSBC bank in Queen Street at midnight on Sunday when a man started swearing and shouting racist insults at him.
The stranger grabbed hold of the 26-year-old's turban a traditional head-dress worn as a sign of devotion to God and threw it on the pavement.

As Mr Ahluwalia struggled to defend himself, another man waved his fists in his face and also shouted racist abuse.
The former student, who was heading home to Whitson Place, Cowley, after a day of praying in London, was shocked none of the people around him tried to help.
He said: "I was really scared. No-one showed any sympathy. There were at least 30 to 40 people and no-one did anything.
"He could have stabbed me."
He was not seriously injured but has been left traumatised and shaken by the attack.
He added: "A turban is part of a Sikh's religion, our costume. What that man did was the biggest sign of disrespect and the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me in my life."
'I always thought this was the best city I have ever been to in my life'Rattandeep Singh AhluwaliaMr Ahluwalia, who moved to the city to study for a Masters at Oxford Brookes University, has also criticised the police for not understanding the significance of what happened to him.
He said when the officers arrived, he was standing against the wall petrified to be seen in public with his hair exposed, but was forced to run over the road to meet them.
Mr Ahluwalia said: "I always thought this was the best city I have ever been to in my life. Now I will not go out late at night on my own."
This is the first time Mr Ahluwalia has been physically attacked.
Oxford police spokesman Kate Smith said officers attended the racially-aggravated common assault on Sunday at 12.12am but no arrests hade been made.
She added: "We take all racist incidents extremely seriously and a thorough investigation is under way."
The attack has been condemned by members of the Sikh community, including Gurdip Singh Saini, vice-chairman of the Asian Cultural Centre in East Oxford. He said: "It is very shocking. These sorts of incidents are increasing day by day in the UK and it is getting worse. It is all the more wrong that no-one came to his rescue."

No excuses: the two blokes who did this need to be disciplined. They cannot treat another human being this way.

Unprovoked attack? Why?

Because you don't like his head-dress?

Well, I ain't too crazy about white skin heads, but you don't see me and my mates going out to pummel them into the ground.

Gurfateh

BNP guys can be explaind that we are not what they think of us instead of joining some Pakistanis to just condem BNP.
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=8866

BNP has an ideolgy and as an EX RSS men das can say that thye could be jsutified in few grivinences. So there is need of dialogue with them.Let them understand that we have uncut locks under our Turban, which many of thier true Aryan forefather had.
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=8866

True Aryan makes other also as Aryan and does not kill just for the sake of race as Aryan means, one who is civilised.

Re: Sikh Attacked in Oxford

Quote:
According to its constitution, the BNP "stands for the preservation of the national and ethnic character of the British people and is wholly opposed to any form of racial integration between British and non-European peoples. It is therefore committed to stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration and to restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent the overwhelmingly white makeup of the British population that existed in Britain prior to 1948". To achieve this aim, the BNP advocates the use of "firm but voluntary incentives" to remove ethnic minorities from the UK[3]. Membership of the party is restricted to "Indigenous Caucasians." [1]
The BNP denies that it is racist, however, stating that it is merely standing up for the white British working-class. The party believes that racism is a part of human nature and describes its supporters as "realists"[4].
Opposition to the BNP ranges from organisations such as the Socialist Workers Party to mainstream anti-racist groups such as Searchlight and Unite Against Fascism.
Hehe...source here...

What's interesting is the use of the term "Indigenous Caucasians", because not only would a Sikkh member not conform to this ideology, but the term "Indigenous Caucasian" with respect to the British Isles is almost impossible to define. There are Anglo Saxons, there are Franch, there are Norse, there are Celts...at which point do they become "Indigenous"?

Furthermore, the Asian population - whilst constituting only 1% of Britain's population - actually contributes to 10% of its economy! Removing these ethnic minorities would set Britain back man, many years on the world stage and it would no longer be a competing power.

They say they want to remove immigrants, etc...but there are tens of thousands of open positions for labour work! We need immigrants to keep the bottom foundation of our economic structure afloat...else we will be ridden into the ground!

Ignorance of the highest order.

Anyway, a Sikkh who joins the BNP on the basis of '****-bashing' should be ashamed of him/herself. A true Sikkh doesn't wish violence against anyone. Violence is a last resort when all other options for living a decent, human life for yourself and others are extinguished. It is not a pass-time.

There are many psychological reasons why onlookers do not get involved in these things... it does not mean the on lookers were racist.
All I can say is welcome to the real world, prejudice happens. Homos are hated as minority on a daily basis, racism exists but is more underground, but people are becoming more open about it in the way they are about homos. It is not about stopping people saying racist stuff or simply having equal rights in the law, but it is about actively trying to change people's values.
