Haryana bans textbook derogatory to Sikh guru
Chandigarh: The Haryana government has banned a
textbook that allegedly contained objectionable references to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Saturday decided to ban Bhasha Manjri 4 following representations from Sikh organisations of Haryana and Punjab.
These organisations had alleged that a chapter in the
book prescribed for the class VI students of the Delhi Public
School (DPS) of Hisar presented the 10th Sikh guru in a bad light.

The book said that Guru Gobind Singh beheaded a pathan when the latter asked him to pay for some horses bought by him, which according to the organizations, was factually wrong.
Hooda claimed that all copies of the controversial book had been seized.
Hisar deputy commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta had been asked to inquire how the book was prescribed.
Former Punjab chief minister and Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal had called up Hooda and demanded action against those responsible for
writing the book and prescribing it for the school
students.
