Do you think, it is fine if a Gursikh is involved in a business involving liquor, drugs, butchering... I mean that kind of profession which harms other's lives directly and indirectly.

What is Gurmat about this?

Re: Sikhism Ethics and Profession

With all respect Arvind I humbly request you to remove butchering from your question since it is likely to start another debate on whether eating meat is wrong or not, and we well end up deviating from your original discussion topic.

But as a vegetarian non-drinker, non-drug taker I consider it ethically wrong and hypocritical for a vegetarian/non-drinker/drug-taker to sell or promote these products in anyway... it is like one saying "I will not put my own head in an oven but gladly allow someone else to do so, infact, here is an oven for you - all nice and warm with the door open... go on, put your head in" !!!

Re: Sikhism Ethics and Profession

Sure, and Thanks CC. Instead of getting into whether meat is acceptable or not, let us not deviate from the intended topic. Let us understand the issue. Considering selling Drugs, Liquor as just two professions, there can be lot more professions, which are harmful to others at physical and psychological levels. Drugs, Liquor, Casino, Prostitution... etc.

So, I re-iterate, What is Gurmat about getting into those kind of professions which harm or even kill the other person directly or indirectly?

And as CC said, I am of the same opinion of being hypocrite, who maintains multiple standards in the form of thought and act.

O hypocrite, renounce and abandon your hypocrisy; do not practice deception. chhod chhod ray paakhandee man kapat na keejai.

By selling alcohol to others, are we not being hypocritical and deceptive?
