| | | | | What do you think about this interesting question about our Sikh Gurus? What do you think of this interesting statement on our Sikh Gurus ?
I am a Sikh who is proud of his Hindu heritage. I allways knew this fact, but someone put it very beautifully. Read this -
The Sikh Gurus had Hindu names..
Nanak Dev - Dev is found in Sanskrit
Angad Dev - Angad is the name of a vaanar prince in the Ramayana
Amar Das - Amar means eternal in Sanskrit Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/sikh-gurus/31619-what-do-you-think-about-interesting.html
Ram Das - Ram is another name found in Sanskrit literature, meaning perfect man
Arjan Dev - Means archer, reference to Arjun of Mahabharata fame
Har Gobind - Gobind is another name of Sri Krishna, so was Hari (which Har is likely derived from)
Har Rai - Rai is a common Hindu surname
Har Krishan - Krishna is the avatar of Sri Vishnu
Tegh Bahadur - His last name was also Rai Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=31619
Gobind Singh - Again, Gobind is another name of Sri Krishna. His last name was also Rai
I mean - we have had problems with Hindus but does it make sense for us to cut our nose to spite our face ? Should we forget where we came from ? Deleted un-necessary information. Debate and discuss. Do not swear and taunt.

If a Christian is named Sarah she is still a Christian. The name Sarah is from the Jewish testament. But that person is not a member of the Jewish faith. And that person regards herself as a member of a different religious faith too. Though Sikh Gurus and Sikhs have names taken from the Hindu scriptures and culture. A Sikh is not a Hindu. Most have given up the idea of Hindu identity ever since Guru Nanak said I an neither Hindu nor Muslim. And the Gurus were all in the same light as Guru Nanak. Actually we Sikhs are fast becoming just a Vashnavite cult of Sikhism and here's why:
1)We believe in Dera, Baba's, Sects Cult eg Radhaoswami AKJ etc
2)Female infanticide and the place of the woman in Sikh's is becoming second class.
3)We are becoming militant vegetarians.
4)We are building elaborate shrine and Temples at huge cost.
5)We have a central caste of elite Brahmin like priests based at the SGPC.
I could go on. Maybe we fight with Hindu's because we are in denial of what we have become i.e. Hindu's with Turbans? | | The following members appreciate Randip Singh Ji for the above message.

As a white converted British Sikh, all of this is meaningless to me. I can then see it as merely cultural rather than dharmic.
It matters not at all where the names of our Guru's came from, I myself have a Chinese name as my first name, it matters not at all.
Indeed why should it?
Pride is a falseness, pride in ones heritage is meaningless, what can you do with such pride?
Pride along with patriotism are tools of maya. Divisive tools they are, they make us belive that we are seperate, that such things a geological locations are important. They are not, the importance is all in our heads.
There is God and then there is God. This is all, do not let such meaninglessness as where a name originated matter to your Sikhi, it simply does not. | | The following members appreciate Lee Ji for the above message.
