'Sabh Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai, Guru Maaniyo Granth…’

(KP)

Sunday 10th of July 2005
Manvir Singh Khalsa – Guest Columnist

'Sabh Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai, Guru Maaniyo Granth…’
Every Sikh this is His will, accept the [Guru] 'Granth' as your only Guru.'
-- Sree Mukhvaak (spoken words) of Guru Gobind Singh Jee

The Guru Granth Sahib Jee is the living light of Guru Jee.
The Guru Granth Sahib Jee is the living spirit of the Ten Guru Sahibaans.
The Guru Granth Sahib Jee is the living voice of Guru Nanak Sahib Jee.

Some people say the Guru Granth Sahib Jee is a mere 'Holy Book'.
Some people say the Guru Granth Sahib Jee is mere ink and paper.
Some people say that you can't get enlightened through the words of Guru Granth Sahib Jee.

“Gurbaani es jag mehe chaanan, karam vasai man aae… Gurbani is the Light to illuminate this world; by His Grace, it comes to abide." (Ang 67)

Many fake godmen use the verses of Gurbaani to enlighten people, and yet call themselves the 'Guru'.
Many fake godmen use the verse of Gurbaani to explain the truth to people yet take the credit of being the 'Guru.
Many fake godmen, look like Sikhs, and twist the words of Gurbaani, to proclaim themselves as the 'Guru'.

Somebody's son moves from India to Canada.
He writes a letter to his family back home saying that he is in good health, got a job and not to worry.

The family a week later receive the letter and reads it.
The family overjoyed celebrate the success of their son.
The family is delighted and happy that its son is well and is healthy.

If someone was to say to the family: " Why are you so happy. You are only reading mere words"…
If someone was to say to the family:" Why are you so proud. It is only a mere piece of paper"…
If someone was to say to the family: " Your son cannot talk to you through "ink and paper"…
That person would have to be the greatest fool to think that the son has not communicated to the family because he cannot talk them through written words.
The message, which the letter gives is of their son's.
The sweet words in the letter are of their son's.
The letter is the son talking to his parents in the form of ink and paper.

Through Gurbaani, Waheguru sent us a message.
Through Gurbaani, Waheguru spoke to us.
Through Gurbaani, Waheguru enlightened us.

“Baani Guru, Guru hai Baani. Vich Baani Amrit saarey… The Divine Word, the Baani is Guru and Guru is the Baani. Within the Amrit Baani, the Ambrosial Nectar (Waheguru's Name) is therein contained.' (Ang 982)

A person who reads Gurbaani to people cannot credit himself to be 'Guru'.
A person who explains Gurbaani to people cannot credit himself to be 'Guru'.
A person who discusses Gurbaani with people cannot credit himself to be 'Guru'

Waheguru is the Formless and all pervading.
Through Guru Nanak Jee and his ten saroop (bodies), Waheguru was revealed in the form of the spoken.
Through Gurbaani and the Guru Granth Sahib Jee, Waheguru is revealed in the form of the written.

The Guru Granth Sahib Jee is an eternal message.
The Guru Granth Sahib Jee is an eternal Emperor.
The Guru Granth Sahib Jee is the eternal voice of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh Jee, forever.

'Waaho, Waaho Baani Nirankaar hai, tis jevad avar naa koe… Hail! Hail! the Divine Word, the Baani, is the embodiment of the Formless Lord Waheguru, There is no other as great as He is.' (Ang 515)

Next time you go to the Gurdwara, and matha tekh (bow) in front of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, will you be able to recognise the ਦਸਾਂ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਆਤਮਾ, dasaa(n) gurooaa(n) di boldee aatma' – the Ten Guru Sahibaans living speaking soul?
Do an Ardaas (prayer) and speak to your Guru directly!
Take a Hukamnama (edict) and listen to your Guru speak!
Read and understand Gurbaani, the Words of the Guru and let your Guru hold your hand and guide you!
Your Guru is great, but have you realised this yet?

“naaraain narpat namaskaarai. aisae gur ko bal bal jaaeeai aap mukat mohi taarai.1.rahaao… (That Guru who seeing the various colours of Waheguru’s creation) bows in humble reverence to the Primal Lord, the Lord of all beings. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to such a Guru. He Himself is liberated, and He carries me across as well. ||1||Pause||” (Ang 1301)

"bhoole maarag jinhi bataaeiaa. aisaa gur vaddbhaagee paaeiaa... He places the one who strays back on the Path; such a Guru is found by great good fortune. ||1||" (Ang 803)

Be inspired and inspire others.
May Waheguru Bless you
