| | | | About Sakhis/Janam Sakhis Section A "Sakhi" literally means "Historical Account" or a Janam Sakhi literally meant a "Birth Story". The term refers to the accounts of the historical events in Sikhism. It is a tale usually from the era during the times of the Gurus. However, many Sakhis do exist from the period before and after the times of the Ten Gurus. | | | | | Re: What are Sakhis or Janam Sakhis? Sakhi when the word appears in GURBANI of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji means....TEACHINGS....MESSAGE...( of the Guru Jis..the Creator...Unlike other religious texts,,the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji does NOT contain any personal histories of any one/Guru sahib/Bhagt sahibs/bhatts/sheikh farid Ji . No personal dates, no personal information about any one is given. Even if an oblique reference to any incidents in real life are given, the underlying Message remains Divine Message for all time and places. | | The following members appreciate Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji for the above message. | |

NO "Sakhi" is an eyewittness account. period.
All are DERIVATIVE...passed on third hand fourth ahdn like the Hadiths...or clear Fakes/inventions of fertile minds who like to tell "tales" instead of PRACTISING GURBANI. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=26984
It is extremely difficult to RECOGNISE the Ajamal, the Ganika and the Draupadi...INSIDE OF US....But it is so ENJOYABLE to close ones eyes and listen to the rambling.."kathawachak Baba ji" relate the fairy tale of how Draupadi was stripped..or ganika and ajlamal etc etc.
The ACTUAL PRACTISE which we are suppsoed to do is RECOGNISE that OUR MANN like "draupadi" is Wrapped in Vikaars..bad feelings, thoughts..and we have to LIVE...PRACTISE GURBANI.......simialrly listenign to Ganika story is NOT going to save our soul..LIVING GURBANI is going to do THAT...but enjoyment of tales is easy to do..wah wah..kia katha see...and we go home empty and with t he same vikaars that we came with.. | | The following members appreciate Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji for the above message.

Let me share an example from the first workbook in the SMC correspondence course . There are two sakhis about Loi the wife of Bhagat Kabir. In both stories Loi is made to seem either completely deluded or driven by malice. On inspection of Gurbani, maybe this is right: Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=26984 ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥ sun andhhalee loee baepeer || Listen, O blind and unguided Loi:
But is Bhagat Kabir referring to his wife? Some will say this tuk supports the sakhis. Others say, No, the sakhis are completely misguided and arise from a misunderstanding of grammar. "Loi" can mean the wife of Kabir. "Loi" can also mean "world."
Listen, O blind and unguided "world."
"Loi" in the feminine is a woman. "Loi" in the masculine is "world." | | The following members appreciate Narayanjot Kaur Ji for the above message.

| | | | | Re: About Sakhis/Janam Sakhis Section Narayanjot Ji,
The Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is for the World.
If Bhagt Kabir Ji is having a private conversation with his wife....how would that end up in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The MESSAGE it conveys is for us all or it would never get included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
How come the Gurus didnt record their own private conversations....all the Gurus (except Guru harkishan) were married, had children and even daughters in law,..sons in law etc...didnt they have any such "conversations" ?? Of course they did...and the MESSAGE is UNIVERSAL....when Guru Ramdass Ji writes..Kaheeh poot jhagart huo baap..O Son, why are you quarelling with Me..your father...He May be addressing Prithi Chand BUT the MESSAGE is for all of US..we frequently quarrel with our Father..the CREATOR !! Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=26984
LOI juts happens to be coincidence. The WORLD is being addressed as this Message is for US..not "loi" the woman who is now NO MORE..but world still exists and will go on existing...and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is for all time. | | The following members appreciate Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji for the above message.
