Well after a full 9 months without my husband I am heading back to Kashmir to spend the next month with him! Yay! I am not sure however what kind of internet connection I will have as last time the connection was not very reliable so if I don't get online too much I will see everyone when I get back beginning of August!

Harkiran Jee - have a wonderful time ! And, whilst you're out there try n get your hands on a fruit called "yamna". This fruit will be in season when you visit India. It is a particular of the subcontinent and I'm not sue whether you'd get that anywhere else in the world.

Good luck !

@Harkiran Kaur ji, enjoy! this is probably the best time to visit the valley.

@Original ji, searching for this word in googles brings up nothing... any image would make it easier! :)
...forgive me young man, I spelt it incorrectly. It should be spelt "jamun" - try that ! It was a very popular subcontinent fruit once upon a time, we had a huge tree at our farm house and I, as a kid would climb up the tree and fill my boots. Even now when I do my work diary for India its marked more favourably with seasonal treats such as jamun n mangoes and then around winter time it's saron da saag maaki di roti and of course, fresh sugar canes pulled out of the ground at my fancy. Like Gurdas Mann sings it - "apna punjab.....hova".

Nothing beats the land of the five-alive !

Ciao

We have many Jamun trees in our house in Ferozepore. They are filled with dark purple fruit in the summer time.

I also found some Jamun trees by the beach in the coastal town of Guarujá in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil during my stay there. I introduced the fruit to my Brazilian friends who had no idea what it was. As it is an acquired taste, not everyone fancied it.

The following year when I was living with an indigenous tribe in the state of Amazonia for a month, I saw them eating Jamuns. I told them how this fruit is common in India, they were happily surprised.

So, how is the trip going on so far! :)

Well Kashmir has been in lockdown the whole month pretty much so we have not been able to go anywhere. All shops are closed except medical / pharmacy and some small provision stores and of course vegetable vendors on the streets. But even movement has been restricted most of the month so we have been spending most of the time at home. :( I did get to go to the Nishat gardens yesterday though for a drive in the city.

Im now safely back on Canada but situation in Kashmir is still not good. I worry every day for my husband and the family. I know there is no immediate danger to then but the systemic effects of the market being closed for a month means crores lost in the valley and what backlash will come from that? My nieces have been out of school the whole time as well, now several weeks late. Driving around the city can sometimes be tricky as there are groups of stone pelters. And a few nights we were forced to turn off all lights by Muslims wanting to cause problems by forcing a blackout. Nothing gives you chills like sitting in the dark for dinner and hearing outside a group of Muslims banging on gates and yelling slogans ending with allahu akhbar. Like groups of 20 or more. Luckily we have a very good deterrent for safety - his name is Bruzo and he's a Rottweiler and nobody who Bruzo doesn't know, will have the courage to come inside the gate! (I love Bruzo though :) he's actually a sweet dog if you are family - took me a little bit to win his trust and now I taught him to give his paw for treats).

But anyway pls do ardaas for Kashmir!!!!

Welcome back Harkiran ! Despite the disruptions, hope you had the opportunity to experience the activity of the soul in accord with perfect virtue. In other words, memorable moments with Balbir !

Goodnight !

I did, but each time I spend with him, it gets harder and harder to leave him at the end... Just waiting for the day when we won't have to be apart anymore. In other words, hope Canada Immigration hurries up with his application approval!

Still I never did anything to them and they were trying to cause me brain injury by throwing rocks at my head... simply because I had a medical appointment to get though and they were blocking the way.
