BARACK OBAMA, has been referred to as a ‘monkey’ by an Australian junior official of a political party. This despicable comment was posted on Twitter as talks of his expulsion sparked off.
The offender, Nick Sowden, belongs to Australia’s Queensland Young Liberal National Party.
A media account asserts that while President of America, Obama was being interviewed by Kerry O Brien of ABC, a media organization, Sowden posted messages on Twitter.
The excerpts of those tweets look like this, “I'm not sure why they paid Kerry to fly to America, if they wanted an interview with a monkey; surely a Ferry to Taronga would have sufficed.” The reference more than evidently was made to Obama.
Party senior members are reportedly upset. The president of the QYLNA Rod Schneider said that the tweets represented the views of an individual and not that of the party. He said, Sowden does not speak for the party and his being sacked is definitely on the cards. “He has a very very short shelf life,” Rod was quoted as saying.
Disciplinary action against Sowden is most likely to be taken. Australia is a free country and all forms of comments can be expressed by any person but from a person belonging to a party justification of such comments is expected.
While the world awaits action against Sowden Twitter may be the medium of first report here too. The social networking site looks powerful enough to spark off controversies one after another. India is no stranger to these – the Tharoor and Modi spat became uglier and played out entirely on the Twitter pages before becoming an all out war. SRK’s tweets on KKR’s performance make sport headlines, and Sania and Shoiab marriage matter first broke out in Twitter too. Tweet away to news and storms!

I hope they take serious action against this guy as they did against the Indian Cricket Player Harbhajan....

the amount of hatred spewed at Obama within america itself is really astounding... especially on national cable news networks like FOX.
It is frustrating becaus, I was anticipating the health care debate to be vigorous, but elements from the far far right turned it into a circus act.
and america lost the public option...many view the bill as a baby step triumph...but so much more could have been done. |

This is really a despicable comment. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=30031
This sort of comments by Australia’s Queensland young liberal National party does not look nice.
Though most of the Newspapers have not published the news and most of the channels also avoid to telecast the news, but Sowden’s posting of message in Twitter while President Obama was getting interviewed is really shameful. Kindly go through the excerpts of those tweets “ I’m not sure why they paid Kerry to fly to America, if they wanted an interview with a monkey; surely a Ferry to Taronga would have sufficed. The Party’s Senior members are upset. But what action has been taken against him. The President QYLNA Rod Schneider’s remarks again is disgusting that the tweets represent the views of individual and not that of party. Now come to the point if such a statement would have been given by an Indian, British, Canadian Politician whether the President of the Party would have stated that the offender will be sacked definitely and it is on cards. The action would have been taken on that moment. What Rod means when he has said that “He has a very very short shelf life”
The statements are being given that the Disciplinary action against Sowden is most likely to be taken. Does it mean it may or may not be taken. We take it lightly that Australia is a free country, but the statement by a person who belongs to a party has great significance. So, each and every word of his speech and deed should be questioned.
Why there is so much wait to take action against Sowden. If the statements of politicians are being taken so lightly then we shall face controversies on one point to another everyday. We have already seen the conflict of President Bush and Saddam Hussain. How much heavy price the conflict has to pay. The sufferer are the common man. In India such type of comments are common in Indian politics. If we go through Tharoor and Modi dispute, it is really shameful The same way the issue started on the Twitter pages and turned in to war and took ugliest shape. Shah Rukh Khan’s tweets on KKR’s performance make sport headline, The same way Sania and Shoiab marriage matter had been broke out in Twitter. The news start with Tweet and afterwards it turns in to the storm.
The political parties should take drastic steps soon so that the blunder of a single person should not take ugliest shape in the long run.

A large part of what you observe comes to us courtesy of the Internet, social media, and other networking utilities. It is the perfect vehicle for irresponsibility because no one is going to be held accountable for what they say unless they are in high public office. Every tweet and twitter is here today and gone in a flash. So the principals in any discussion of controversy will pay a price, but the waves of hostile, nihilistic, destructively critical language that follow an initial event come and go. Their speakers never have to consider or pay up for the damage done. the damage builds and creates its own reality.
The answer cannot be restriction of the Internet. But who knows how far this can go before we begin to see a situation not unlike that in China. | | The following member appreciates Narayanjot Kaur Ji for the above message.

| | | | | Re: Obama called a monkey by an Aussie political worker Dear Narayanot Kaur ji,
Regards,
I fully agree with you that large part of our observation is due to the courtesy of the internet, social media and other networking utilities. Though everybody knows that such type of statements are usually given to gain popularity. But Madam, if the persons those have reputed post should not behave irresponsibly. We know that no one will be held accountable but these sort of mimickeries gain popularity and becomes national issues. There is a lot of difference between the statements made by the common person and the high profile persons. But one thing we should not forget. How the dispute between George Bush and Saddam Hussain started. The dispute comes to such a low position that the foot mats of the Hotels in Iraq were placed with George Bush’s picture. Ultimately the general public have to suffer Why the public paid such a great price for the dispute of two high profile persons. The waves of hostile keeps on moving further and further. I agree to you that such type of destructive critical language that follow an initial event come and go but sometimes the petty dispute create havoc. High profile persons should not indulge in such a cheap remarks to the foreign dignitaries. The cheap politics start with one person and whole of the nation has to suffer due to the consequences of bitterness. The politicians should not build such an image that harm to the relations of whole of the nation. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=30031
The other aspect that the restriction on internet can not be made. Yes it is true. In Print and Electronic media the Editor used to Edit the post and the matter to be telecasted. But in Internet this is a great draw-back. Though the situation of every country is being worse to worst but the Politicians and bureaucrats should provide a remarkable image to the public so that the general public should be benefited with their vision. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=30031
As the high profile in SPN, your statement will count a lot and everybody is sure that Madam Naryanjot Kaurji or Amanji will try their best to give a neutral image and will not indulge in controversial matter. If we as general public are so cautious about our image then the politicians of developed countries should provide the remarkable image to the nation so that the coming generation can follow their foot steps.

Sometimes I think it is wrong to be neutral. It is never acceptable to call another human being a "monkey" in ridicule. More to the point, African Americans have been historically compared to lower primates (monkeys, gorillas, etc.) for more than 2 centuries in order to demean and dehumanize them. So to call Obama a monkey is clearly nothing more than political mud-slinging based in pure racism. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=30031
In the states, the Internet is used to foment this kind of thing and the result in the end will be political nihilism. This language is first treated as a joke. But the tidal waves that follow lead beyond expressions of disagreement with a political figure, to organized networking in which crimes of all sorts are advocated. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=30031
I will never be an advocate of restrictions on media. But as each year goes by it becomes apparent that the public is less and less able to express its opposition in a thoughtful way, and instead resorts to what sounds more like chanting and thumping of slogans, all primed to appeal to the most primitive self. So I will be saddened but not surprised if censorship becomes more widespread than it already is. | | The following member appreciates Narayanjot Kaur Ji for the above message.
