Sri Guru Gobind Singh and His Arabian Horse Neela Horse Modern Punjabi n. ghora. M; ਆਵਧਹ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਮਣੰ ਓਟ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕਰ ਚਰਮਣਹ ॥ aavadhheh gun gobindh ramanan outt gur sabadh kar charamaneh || Their weapons are the Glorious Praises of the Lord which they chant; their Shelter and Shield is the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ਆਰੂੜਤੇ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਰਥ ਨਾਗਹ ਬੁਝੰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗਹ ॥ aaroorrathae asv rathh naageh bujhanthae prabh maarageh || The horses, chariots and elephants they ride are their way to realize God's Path. ਬਿਚਰਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਯੰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸੈਨਾ ਧਾਯੰਤੇ ਗ+ਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ ॥ bicharathae nirabhayan sathra sainaa dhhaayanthae guopaal keerathaneh || They walk fearlessly through the armies of their enemies; they attack them with the Kirtan of God's Praises.

Sardars and Horses ਕੋਟ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਕੁਰੰਗ ਸੇ ਕੂਦਤ ਪਉਨ ਕੇ ਗਉਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਤ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥ kot turang kurang se soodat paun ke gaun kau jaat nivaare|| With millions of horses galloping like deer, moving faster than the wind. Sri Dasam Granth
Sri Guru Gobind Singh and His Blue Arabian Horse Guru Gobind Singh Ji was famed for his blue coloured horse, in fact Guru Sahib Ji is sometimes known as ‘Neelay ghoray whalla’ or the owner of the blue horse and many a folk songs and vars sing the exploits of ‘Neelay ghoray they swaar’ the rider of the blue horse. Just as his grandfather Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Guru Gobind Singh instructed his Sikhs to make offerings of arms and horses in readiness for the turbulent times ahead. In anticipation of this Guru Gobind Singh Ji learnt the art of horsemanship from an early age under the guidance of his maternal uncle Bhai Kirpal Chand. ... It is not clear where the blue horse, affectionately known as Neela, was acquired from, it may have been a gift from a royal dignitary or from a devotee. Even today the lineage of the stallions continues at Hazoor Sahib, Nanded. The horses are kept in stables and are bred from the original stallion belonging to Guru Sahib Ji, although over time the blue colour has been diluted down to a grey white. No one is allowed to ride the horses as a mark of respect and they are brought out on the festival of Holla Mahalla or gurpurbs when they are beautifully decorated with tassels and riding gear. On occasions, especially on the festival of Holla Mahalla, it has been said that the horse will get extremely sweaty and agitated, as if it is being ridden. M; ਜਾਤ ਜਉਨ ਦਿਸਾਨ ਕੋ ਪਛ ਲਾਗਹੀ ਸਿਰਦਾਰ ॥ Jaat jaun disaan ko pachh laag-hisirdaar|| Wherever the horse named Sri Barn goes, the army chiefs follow him. ਜਉਨ ਬਾਧ ਤੁਰੰਗ ਜੂਝਤ ਜੀਤੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਜੁੱਧ ॥ Jaun baadh turang joojhat jeeteeai kar(i) juddh|| Whosoever chains the horse, they fight with him and conquer him. ਆਨ ਜਉਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਚੈ ਨਹਿ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੁੱਧ ॥੧੧॥੧੫੨॥ aan jaun milai bachai nah(i) maareeai kar(i) kruddh||11||152|| He who receives them, he is saved, otherwise one who confronts, is violently killed.
