PHAGWARA: Union Government is actively considering to constitute “Equal Opportunities Commission” to facilitate the people belonging to all communities.

This was stated by National Commission for Minorities Member and Former PPCC President H. S. Hanspal while talking to newsmen at the residence of former Minister Joginder Singh Maan after condoling the death of Late Smt Baljinder Kaur Maan wife of Maan on sunday afternoon.

Replying a question, He admitted that Jammu and Kashmir State was not under the purview of the Commission while it should be brought under the purview of the Minority Commission to safeguard the interests of the minorities in the valley.

Hanspal said that the state level Minority Commission were presently working only in 15 out of total 25 states of the country, but the state level Minorities Commissions should be set up in all states to solve the state level problems in their respective states as it was the dire need of the hour. He disclosed that even no state level Minority Commission could be set up in Punjab till now.

Replying a question, Hanspal however advocated the demand of the Sikhs of Haryana to set up a separate Haryana Gurdwara Sikh Parbhandhak Committee like in Delhi.

When asked about the proposed Anad Karaj Act, Hanspal said he is in favour of separate “Anand Karaj Act” for Sikhs as it belongs to the religious ceremonies of Sikhs and himself had recommended to UPA Government to go through to pass a such resolution in the parliament.

Hanspal alleged that Punjab Government could not utilized the funds sent by the commission for the welfare of the minorities, which repeatedly was being asked by the commission to utilized these funds and now state government has started using these using funds, but even then State Government could spend only Rs 17 Crores out of total Rs 35 Crores sent by the Minority Commission. He said that Commission has sufficient huge funds for the welfare of the minorities, but state governments should come forward to proper utilize these funds.

Replying a question, Hanspal said that after receiving some complaints against Railway Coach Factory Kapurthala for allegedly adopting discreminatory attitude with the minorities during recruitment and promotions, he had strongly written to railway Board and railway Ministry to act accordingly to safe guard the interests of minorities at every stage. Hanspal disclosed that minorities communities including 15% Muslims,2% Christians,2% Sikhs, and half percent each of Parasi and Budhists should actively work to educate their new generations as most of the Muslims having 15% population of the country are being observed illiterate and seemed to be least interested in literacy, which is the dire need of the present social system. He also inspired social Organizations to come forward to educate the minorities.

When asked about chaotic scenario being developed in parliament and some state assemblies including Punjab, Hanspal said that elected and nominated members should work with responsibility and media should also highlighted the progressive working of these houses. He stressed the need to educate these members of parliament and state assemblies for smooth working and to save the precious time of the respective houses.
