Dear Members,

Here, I share with you my understanding of 25th Pauri of Japji Sahib.

1. bhuqw krmu iliKAw nw jwie ] bahutaa karam likhi-aa naa jaa-ay.
The doings of ‘Karta Purakh’ are so numerous that they cannot be documented.

2. vfw dwqw iqlu n qmwie ] vadaa daataa til na tamaa-ay.
The great giver (Karta Purakh) does not hold back any thing.

3. kyqy mMgih joD Apwr ] kaytay mangahi joDh apaar.
Even the powerful (heroic warriors) beg from ‘Karta Purakh’.

4. kyiqAw gxq nhI vIcwru ] kayti-aa ganat nahee veechaar.
‘Karta Purakh’ cannot be measured or perceived through thought.

5. kyqy Kip qutih vykwr ] kaytay khap tutahi vaykaar.
In the attempt to size (perceive using the faculties that we humans have) ‘Karta Purakh’, many get consumed and wasted.

6. kyqy lY lY mukru pwih ] kaytay lai lai mukar paahi.
Many keep getting from ‘Karta Purakh’ but deny this fact.

7. kyqy mUrK KwhI Kwih ] kaytay moorakh khaahee khaahi.
Many foolishly keep consuming.

8. kyiqAw dUK BUK sd mwr ] kayti-aa dookh bhookh sad maar.

Many endure sufferings, unfulfilled desires and deprivation.

9. eyih iB dwiq qyrI dwqwr ] ayhi bhe daat tayree daataar.
These too you give, the great giver (Karta Purakh).

10. bMid KlwsI BwxY hoie ] band khalaasee bhaanai ho-ay.
The liberation from bondage comes by your will.

11. horu AwiK n skY koie ] hor aakh na sakai ko-ay.
No one else have any say in this.

12. jy ko Kwieku AwKix pwie ] jay ko khaa-ik aakhan paa-ay.
If some degenerated person claims to have a say in it.

13. Ehu jwxY jyqIAw muih Kwie ] oh jaanai jaytee-aa muhi khaa-ay.
That individual alone will know the defeats/reverses she/he suffers.

14. Awpy jwxY Awpy dyie ] aapay jaanai aapay day-ay.
‘Karta Purakh’ knows on it’s own and gives on its own.

15. AwKih is iB kyeI kyie ] aakhahi se bhe kay-ee kay-ay.
Very few individual realise this fact and acknowledge it.

16. ijs no bKsy isPiq swlwh ] jis no bakhsay sifat saalaah.

Whom ‘Karta Purakh’ blesses gets praise and honor.

17. nwnk pwiqswhI pwiqswhu ]25] naanak paatisaahee paatisaahu. ||25||
O’ Nanak, ‘Karta Purakh’ is King of kings.

My learning from this Pauri:

In this Pauri Guru Sahib is telling me that ‘Karta Purakh’ cannot be sized, measured or perceived by any of the human faculties. Any attempt to do so is just a waste and so I should not attempt to do so.

Guru Sahib is telling me that what ever I get (pain or pleasure) is what comes from ‘Karta Purakh’. I should never claim the credit for or ownership of it. This way he is helping me to get rid of Ahamkara in me.

In a way, Guru Sahib is telling me that I should not keep asking for boons from ‘Karta Purakh’ as ‘The Sat’ knows what I need and deserve. ‘Karta Purakh’ gives what I deserve on its own. ‘Karta Purakh’ is a great giver and will not hold even the smallest entity that I deserve. Even the great boon of liberation comes only when ‘Karta Purakh’ wishes, it will not come by my asking.

In this way Guru Sahib is teaching me to be pure, do right Karmas.

From ‘Karta Purakh’ I will get only what I deserve.

With Love and Respect for all.

Amarpal.
