Operation must use an updatable query

Getting the error message "Operation must use an updatable query" (3073) in
Microsoft Access XP (version 10.6771.6735 SP3). We're trying to update a
linked table using an updatable query in Access. The linked table is linked

to an Excel file stored on a network drive. The query worked fine until
Microsoft Office XP was recently updated

This query was just tested on a machine without the above updates and works
