It has alot to do with what the females in particular teach you in the family. If they don't teach you to respect women and don't discipline you when you do then You're heading for the hawalat in not too long. Same goes with the males.

I think its kind of impossible to remove rape 100% from society just as it is impossible to remove murder but if kids are given the right direction at home then its much harder for them to go down the wrong path.

Also, I must say nowadays or even in the past not all Indian mothers have been kind to other people's daughters. When you don't respect someone else's daughter who will respect yours.
